Castello di Neive 2012 Barbaresco

A gracious, mid-weight wine, Castello di Neive’s 2012 Barbaresco speaks to precision. Freshly cut flowers, sweet red berries, mint and cinnamon are some of the many notes that flesh out in the glass. Silky, polished tannins only add to the wine’s considerable near and medium-term appeal. There is plenty to like, including the wine’s overall balance. The finish is perhaps a touch slender, but there is plenty of Nebbiolo intrigue here, especially once the wine has had a bit of air. The straight Barbaresco is made from a blend of sites, including the lower slopes of Santo Stefano, plus parcels in Gallina, San Cristoforo and Serra Cappelli, all of which are estate owned.
