Paolo Scavino 2020 Barolo Ravera
$89.99 – $450.00Piedmont Italy
Jeb Dunnuck 95 Rating
Dark ruby, the 2020 Barolo Ravera is expressive and leads with mineral-tinged aromas of graphite, raspberry liqueur, sweet flowers, pine, and mossy earth. Medium-bodied, it displays more intensity on the palate, with an elegant but more chiseled feel, ripe tannins, even, energetic acidity, and a mouthwatering finish. It’s going to benefit from another couple years in bottle. Drink 2026-2046.

Paolo Scavino 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo
$26.99 – $264.00Piedmont Italy
The 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo is another terrific entry-level wine from Scavino. It shows good depth and plenty of intensity, especially in its peer group. This is far from an easygoing wine. Readers will find a Nebbiolo redolent of dark red cherry, dried herb, cedar, mint, licorice and incense. The 2022 will delight readers on a budget.

Patrimony 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon
$269.99 – $1,500.00Paso Robles California
Jeb Dunnuck 99 Rating
The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon is cut from the same cloth as the 2019, yet is perhaps richer and more expansive, with slightly less elegance. Currants, chocolate, toasted spices, and tobacco all define this beauty, and it has full-bodied richness, flawlessly integrated oak, good acidity, and a great finish. Anyone doubting the quality that can be achieved in Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles owes it to themselves to try one of these wines. SPBX-3 SP21-3

$34.99 – $180.00Sonoma Coast California
Wine Enthusiast 93 Rating
This deep and delicious “regular” bottling from Patz & Hall is fragrant in black cherries, pine needles and ground cloves before blackberries, black tea and hints of cinnamon and cedar play across the palate. At once full-bodied and well-balanced, the wine offers abundant fruits and spices on a moderately tannic texture. Best through 2030.

Paul Hobbs 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon
$119.99Napa Valley California
Jeb Dunnuck 94 Rating
The base release is the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon and it comes from multiple sites throughout the valley. It’s a killer wine and offers the classic sweet crème de cassis and blackberry fruit that's the hallmark of the vintage. With loads of richness, notes of Asian spices, pencil lead and cedar, full-bodied richness, and sweet tannin, it's already drinking beautifully yet will keep for another two decades or more. Paul Hobbs 2019 Chardonnay Russian River Valley
$59.99Sonoma County California
Jeb Dunnuck 94 Rating
Leading off the Chardonnay from Paul Hobbs, the 2019 Chardonnay Russian River Valley reveals a light gold hue as well as a classic, cleanly perfumed bouquet of honeyed citrus, crushed stone, white flowers, and brioche, with just a hint of toasted almond emerging with time in the glass. Medium-bodied, fresh, and lively on the palate, it gains more and more minerality as it sits in the glass. It’s flawlessly balanced, with an incredible mix of rich, ripe fruit and racy, bright acidity as well as outstanding length. This white is well worth searching out, and I would rank it with one of the top, base appellation blends in the vintage. R21-6 -

Paul Hobbs 2019 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley
$69.99Sonoma County California
Jeb Dunnuck 94 Rating
Moving to the reds, the 2019 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley offers a medium ruby/purple hue to go with a beautiful perfume of mulberries, black cherries, Asian spices, and roasted herbs. Playing in the medium-bodied end of the spectrum, it still brings plenty of fruit, with a great mid-palate and outstanding length on the finish. It’s common in 2019 for the Russian River Valley Pinots to show a beautiful sense of freshness and elegance, and this wine delivers those qualities in spades. It can be drunk any time over the coming 7-8 years. R46-3
