    $49.99

    Northern Rhone Valley France

Layers of dried sage, bramble and green peppercorns lend a Sauvage appeal to plump, juicy black cherry and plum in this wine. It’s a full bodied but graceful Syrah fringed by fine tannins. The finish is delightfully floral, etched by violet and rose-petal perfume. Lovely already, the wine should drink well through 2027. SP36-5

  • Saint Cosme 2018 Gigondas

    $49.99

    Southern Rhone Valley France
    Wine Advocate 93 Rating
Saint Cosme's 2018 Gigondas is a blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 14% Syrah and 1% Cinsault, aged in a combination of new and used oak, with 30% of the volume matured in concrete. Full-bodied and generous, it's round and supple, with no hard edges to hamper the easy flow of asphalt, red raspberries and black cherries across the palate. Boasting ample but not excessive concentration, it's a lovely, seductive example of Gigondas to enjoy over the next decade or so. SP38-10

  • Saint-Damien 2021 Gigondas Vieilles Vignes

    $39.99

    Southern Rhone Valley France
    Vinous 95 Rating
Vivid ruby. A highly fragrant bouquet evokes candied red fruits, smoky minerals and lavender; a spicy nuance builds as the wine opens up. Sappy and penetrating on the palate, juicy raspberry, cherry and floral pastille flavors show good heft, seamless texture and real energy. It finishes spicy and impressively long, with sneaky tannins adding a final grip. This is shaping up to be a highly impressive entry-level bottling, which is not surprising given that this is the only Gigondas that will be bottled this year, so all the juice from the Louisiane and Souteyrades is going into this wine. Get it, lots of it, if you can. Raised in neutral, 50 hectoliter oak foudres. R5-2

The first Vacqueyras I’ve tasted from this brilliant Gigondas estate, the 2022 Vacqueyras has pure red and black fruits as well as textbook spicy herbs, pepper, and savory flower aromas and flavors. It’s concentrated, medium to full-bodied, has plenty of mid-palate depth, and outstanding length. I’d happily be a buyer. SP36-6

  • San Marzano 2019 Primitivo di Manduria Old Vines Sessantanni

The “Sessantanni” Primitivo di Manduria represents the highest quality of the San Marzano Winery and one of the most interesting expressions of this great Mediterranean vine. It is a red suitable for those who love amplitude, structure and rich, almost opulent extraction, which translates into warm, soft and enveloping sensations. In the glass it has a very intense ruby color. The bouquet expresses ripe aromas of red fruit, notes of jam, spicy hints, toasted and woody nuances. On the palate it has a body full of aromas, with beautiful tertiary evolutions that amplify its complexity. The tannic texture is harmonious, the freshness very balanced and the finish of great persistence.

Wild berry, camphor, tobacco and cocoa aromas fill the glass. Smooth, juicy and delicious, the full-bodied palate delivers ripe black cherry, raspberry compote and licorice while firm fine-grained tannins offer support. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced. Drink 2022–2027. R1-2

  • Sandhi 2021 Pinot Noir Santa Rita Hills

    $39.99$210.00

    Santa Barbara County California
    Wine Advocate 96 Rating
The 2021 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills has a medium ruby color and pretty scents of cinnamon stick, aniseed, iron, underbrush and charcuterie with a core of red cherries and cranberries. Medium-bodied yet very concentrated, it has a powdery frame, sparks of refreshing acidity and a very long, graphite-driven finish. Precise and detailed, it deserves to spend another 2-3 years in bottle.

From two iconic vineyards, La Rinconada and Sanford & Benedict, this red aged II months in French oak speaks of fresh earth, bright cherry, and a pinch of white pepper. A cascade of red flowers, rooibos tea, and hot cinnamon candy adds to its graceful charm.

  • Saxum 2016 James Berry Vineyard

    $199.99

Willow Creek District Paso Robles California
    Jeb Dunnuck 100 Rating
I tasted the 2016 James Berry Vineyard out of barrel and it’s a smokin’ blend of 55% Grenache, 24% Mourvèdre, 13% Syrah and 8% Counoise that saw 24% whole clusters and aging mostly in barrel. Black raspberry and cassis intermixed with notions of mint, violets/spring flowers and pepper give way to a sensationally layered, full-bodied, gorgeous red that has excellent freshness and a great, great finish. While this cuvée has leaned towards to the more elegant side of the spectrum over the past 6-7 years, this is a return to the richer, more blockbuster style versions, and I think it’s better for it.
