Chateau Pedesclaux 2020 Red Blend Pauillac
$69.99 – $300.00Bordeaux

The 2020 Château Pédesclaux reminds me of the 2016 with its concentrated, pure, classic Pauillac style. A blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it has a great nose of pure blue fruits (currants, cassis) as well as ample lead pencil, chalky minerality, and violet aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, and elegant on the palate, it has the purity and polish to shine even today, yet my money is on it benefiting from 4-6 years of bottle age, and it should evolve gradually over the following 15+ years.

Showing beautifully on multiple occasions, the 2016 Château Phélan Ségur is incredibly impressive and reveals a saturated purple as well as pure cassis, violets, damp earth, lead pencil, and spice-driven aromas and flavors. Beautifully layered and textured, concentrated, with fine tannins and the purity and elegance that make the vintage so compelling front and center, it’s a high-class Saint Estèphe to enjoy over the coming 20-25 years or more. Chateau Phelan Segur 2018 Saint-Estephe

The flagship 2018 Château Phélan Ségur is a beauty based on 57% Cabernet Sauvignon and 43% Merlot. This was a great vintage for the Médoc, and the 2018 reveals a dense purple hue to go with powerful notes of blackcurrants, iron, smoked tobacco, chocolate, and earth. Rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, it has beautiful tannin's, remarkable purity of fruit, and just does everything right. It has some up-front appeal today (no doubt due to the high Merlot content), yet it builds with time in the glass and shows more and more structure with air. It deserves 5-6 years of bottle age and will keep for 20-25. It's every bit as good as the 2016, if not better. SP53-12 BX-6 -

The 2019 Château Phelan Segur from Véronique Dausse is another brilliant Saint-Estèphe in the vintage, and this estate plays in the top handful of Saint-Estèphes out there. Offering lots of darker currants, spiced plums, Iron, tobacco, and damp earth on the nose, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a concentrated, tannic, yet balanced mouthfeel, and a great finish. It needs to be forgotten for a good 5-7 years and will be a brilliant wine over the following two decades. Best After 2027. R29-1 -
Château Picard 2017 Saint-Estèphe Cru bourgeois
$29.99Bordeaux France
Since the acquisition of Château Picard, Mähler-Besse, who has renovated the Napoleon III-style cellars, has endowed the property with an efficient wine-making tool, with entry of the harvest by gravity. Its exceptional terroir with a clayey tendency, characteristic of Saint-Estèphe, presents soils loaded with calcified remains of cockles and sea urchins. This vineyard with a high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon produces finely smoked and spicy wines of very good class. SP59-2 -
Chateau Pichon-Longueville Baron 2018 Pauillac
$249.99Bordeaux France
Wine Enthusiast 100 Rating
This great estate in southern Pauillac, facing the Latour vineyard, is at the top of its game. In this release, the tannins are as impressive and dense as the black fruits. Together they form a harmonious ensemble, richly structured, concentrated from the many old vines in the blend, and very ageworthy. *Cellar Selection* SP56-5 -
Chateau Pichon-Longueville Baron 2020 Pauillac
$224.99Bordeaux France
Jeb Dunnuck 98 Rating
The flagship 2020 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron is pure gold, a full-bodied, rich, powerful 2020 displaying the vintage’s purity, focus, and structure front and center. A blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Merlot, its dense purple hue is followed by a mammoth-sized bouquet of cassis, blackberries, smoked earth, graphite, and cedar pencil. With ripe tannins, a seamless, layered mouthfeel, and one heck of a finish, it comes closest in my mind to the estate 2010, and I think is clearly in the same realm as the 1989, 1990, 2000, 2009, 2010, 2015, and 2019. Chateau Pontet Canet 2020 Pauillac
$149.99Bordeaux France
Jeb Dunnuck 97 Rating
The flagship from this estate, the 2020 Château Pontet-Canet is a beauty based on 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, and 4% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, brought up in 50% new oak, with 35% in amphora. Deep purple-hued with a great nose of dark currants, plums, tobacco leaf, and truffly earth, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a layered, seamless mouthfeel and a great finish. The higher Merlot content here really shows in its overall sexy, supple, seamless style, and while this already offers pleasure, it’s going to be one for the ages as well. Rating: 97+ SPBX-6 -
Chateau Puech-Haut 2022 Argali Blanc

A beautifully aromatic blend from the South of France with a light-yellow robe that is brilliant and crystalline. The intense nose reveals notes of exotic citrus fruits and flowers.
