Clos Apalta 2021 Le Petit Clos Red Blend
Price range: $54.99 through $288.00Colchagua Valley Chile
Vinous 96 Rating
Embracing a Bordeaux-style approach, Le Petit Clos is the second wine of Clos Apalta. The 2021 Le Petit Clos combines 68% Carménère, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc, all sourced from the Apalta Vineyard in Colchagua. Displaying a purple hue in the glass, it exhibits a ripe character mellowed by the fresh nature of the vintage. It offers plum and blackberry aromas along with bay leaf, boldo and menthol hints over an ashy marmalade core. Indulgent, plush and rich on the palate, the soft and overwhelming mouthfeel lingers long with a precise, juicy and slightly refreshing personality. The 2021 vintage is indeed a standout for Clos Apalta. R14-3

Clos des Papes 2015 Châteauneuf-du-Pape
$149.99Southern Rhone Valley France
Wine Spectator 98 Rating
This offers a drop-dead gorgeous core of cassis and raspberry pâte de fruit flavors that hold center stage but still allow notes of Lapsang souchong tea, anise, incense and shiso leaf to chime in. Very long, with a sublime feel through the mineral-tinged finish. So seductive already, but this should cruise in the cellar. Drink now through 2040. 6,000 cases made, 850 cases imported. SP36-1 -

Jeb Dunnuck 93 Rating
The 2020 Clos Du Roy offers up a pure, beautifully clean bouquet of ripe black cherries, plums, tobacco, and cedary spices. This carries to a medium to full-bodied Fronsac with a balanced, layered mouthfeel, nicely integrated acidity, and a great finish. It’s a stunning Fronsac to enjoy over the coming 10-15 years. SP51-4

Clos i Terrasses Clos Erasmus 2017 Laurel
$59.99Priorat, Spain
Wine Advocate 95 Rating
The 2017 Laurel is a blend of the younger vines, some barrels that were declassified from Clos Erasmus and the remaining Cabernet Sauvignon, and in the low-yielding and dry 2017 vintage, it's 70% Garnacha, 20% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, with 15% alcohol. The wine fermented mostly in concrete and oak vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in a combination of oak vats, concrete, used barriques and amphorae for 16 months. They produce this to be approachable from the moment it's released. The 2017s feel very aromatic, open, expressive and young, quite primary, tender and juicy and surprisingly fresh for a dry, warm year that resulted in a very early harvest. There is a peachy, soft, approachable quality here that I like very much. Surprisingly enough, winemaker and proprietor Daphne Glorian sees reminiscences of the 2013s in the 2017s, and I have to agree. SP35-6 -

Clos La Roquete 2021 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc
$49.99Southern Rhone Valley France
Jeb Dunnuck 94 Rating
I always love this white, and the 2021 Châteauneuf Du Pape Blanc Clos Roquete Blanc is no exception. Pure, clean, and elegant, with medium-bodied aromas and flavors of ripe lemon, honeysuckle, and white flowers, it has a pretty, seamless, impeccably balanced profile and is already impossible to resist. Clos Mogador 2022 Priorat
Price range: $119.99 through $600.00Spain
Wine Advocate 97 Rating
Their single-vineyard 2022 Clos Mogador, they flagship wine, was produced with a blend of grapes, mostly Garnacha and Cariñena but also some Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon (less and less, as they are regrafting most of them). It has a very Mediterranean nose with plenty of dry hay and straw notes, the classical wet slate notes, very Priorat too, and it has a round palate and very fine, chalky tannins. It’s serious and harmonious and feels relaxed, without any excess.
