Based on 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, raised in 65% new barrels, it offers a dense purple hue to go with gorgeous notes of blackcurrants, spring flowers, cigar wrapper, and sandalwood. A quintessential Margaux with its spicy, complex, floral character, it's full-bodied and has a supple, elegant texture, no hard edges, a solid spine of acidity, and a great, great finish.     The 2020 Château Saint-Pierre (Saint-Julien) looks to be beautiful, with a fresher, focused, yet still powerful style that fits nicely into the vintage. Lots of black and blue fruits, crushed stone, and graphite define the nose, and it’s full-bodied, with a great mid-palate, ripe yet building tannins, and a great finish. It’s going to need time to integrate its oak, but the purity of fruit, quality of the tannins, and balance are all spot on. SPBX-6

    From the team at Ausone, the 2016 Château Simard is made from 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc brought up in just 30% new French oak. It’s a medium-bodied, classic, nicely balanced Saint-Emilion that has loads of upfront charm. Offering up notes of dark fruits and tobacco, it has an easygoing, rounded texture and is geared for drinking over the coming decade or so. It’s a delicious, satisfying effort.
