  • Clos i Terrasses Clos Erasmus 2017 Laurel

    $59.99

    Priorat, Spain
    Wine Advocate 95 Rating
The 2017 Laurel is a blend of the younger vines, some barrels that were declassified from Clos Erasmus and the remaining Cabernet Sauvignon, and in the low-yielding and dry 2017 vintage, it's 70% Garnacha, 20% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, with 15% alcohol. The wine fermented mostly in concrete and oak vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in a combination of oak vats, concrete, used barriques and amphorae for 16 months. They produce this to be approachable from the moment it's released. The 2017s feel very aromatic, open, expressive and young, quite primary, tender and juicy and surprisingly fresh for a dry, warm year that resulted in a very early harvest. There is a peachy, soft, approachable quality here that I like very much. Surprisingly enough, winemaker and proprietor Daphne Glorian sees reminiscences of the 2013s in the 2017s, and I have to agree. SP35-8

I always love this white, and the 2021 Châteauneuf Du Pape Blanc Clos Roquete Blanc is no exception. Pure, clean, and elegant, with medium-bodied aromas and flavors of ripe lemon, honeysuckle, and white flowers, it has a pretty, seamless, impeccably balanced profile and is already impossible to resist. The star of the show in 2018 is the 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape La Combe Des Fous, which has an incredible mix of complexity, power, and elegance that’s something to behold. Sporting a deep purple/plum color as well as a killer bouquet of blackcurrants, lavender, peppery garrigue, graphite, and white chocolate, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a seamless, multi-dimensional texture, incredible tannins, and a gorgeous finish. This is as good as 2018 gets, and while it’s already impossible to resist, it’s going to evolve for 15+ years. SP34-4

  • Col d’Orcia 2016 Poggio al Vento Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

    $159.99

    Tuscany Italy
    James Suckling 98 Rating
Super classic Brunello from a classic vintage, being released now. The perfume to this is really something, with cherries, flowers, lead pencil and light hints of graphite. Then it moves to raspberries and black cherries with some sandalwood shavings. You just want to smell it. Clear and transparent. Full-bodied with very fine and succinct tannins that fill the mouth and show super tension and form. Extremely long and structured. Beautiful now, but this will age for decades ahead. Drink or hold.

  • Col d’Orcia 2020 Brunello di Montalcino

    Wine Advocate 94 Rating
The organic Col d’Orcia 2020 Brunello di Montalcino offers a classic Sangiovese bouquet with warm-vintage intensity. It shows sweet aromas of raspberry tart and cooked cherry. There is a delicate element of smoked spice at the back. The tannins are open-knit, and the wine offers immediate drinking pleasure. It should be exciting to follow this wine’s future evolution. “We try to protect the freshness of Sangiovese,” says Count Francesco Marone Cinzano. “That is our reading of traditional Brunello.”

  • Collefrisio ‘Sotto Sopra’ Wine & Sour Cherries

    $26.99

    Abruzzo Italy
    Enjoyabilityfactor 91 Rating
Wine with sour cherry is a traditional product of the Abruzzo region, called Ratafia. There are different versions, including fortified ones. This one is made exclusively with Montepulciano d'Abruzzo with some sour cherry syrup. Intense notes of red fruits and cocoa. Elegant, soft and fresh. Served chilled. The preparation and use of Ratafia are part of the centuries-old tradition of farming, handed down from generation to generation. It is traditionally produced by placing, in varying proportions according to the local recipe, whole or pungent sweet cherries and sugar in glass containers exposed to the sun for about 30 days in order to favor fermentation. The product is then added to red wine, left to macerate and stirred daily for at least another 30 days, but it can also reach 5-6 months. The product is then filtered and bottled.

  • ColleMassari 2017 Montecucco Rosso Riserva

    $24.99

    Tuscany Italy
    Antonio Galloni 93 Rating
Dark and seductive, the 2017 Rosso Riserva Montecucco lulls you in with a bouquet that blends dusty black cherries and red currants with sweet mint leaf and hints of clove. There are depths of soft, fleshy textures within, balanced by brisk acids, masses of tart blackberry fruit and balsam herbal tones. This reverberates with youthful tension, leaving a saturation of primary concentration upon the palate, framed by a coating of grippy tannins. While you can sense the warmth and dry conditions of the vintage here, the 2017 overdelivers, coming across as more immediate than expected, yet balanced enough to excel through short-term cellaring. The Rosso Riserva is a blend of 80% Sangiovese, 10% Ciliegiolo and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon refined for sixteen months in a combination of forty-hectoliter casks and five-hundred-liter tonneaux. R17-3
