The wine shows a delicate profile on the nose with aromas of red flowers, cherries, and sweet herbs. The palate shows the rusticity of the appellation but with unexpected richness and texture. Aging in 25% new oak barrels brings warm notes of vanilla and spice..

Brought up all in concreate, the 2022 Chateauneuf Du Pape Cuvee Des Deux Soeurs has a classic nose of spicy red and black fruit intermixed with ample peppery garrigue and sappy floral notes. It’s medium-bodied, nicely balanced, and elegant, with fine tannins. Drink this beautiful, classic Chateauneuf du Pape over the coming decade.

While much of Sancerre lies on chalk soils much of the Vacheron estate is planted on silex which is flint over a clay and limestone base. This silex soil contains millions of tiny oceanic fossils giving evidence that the entire region was once covered by the ocean. It produces wines of amazing minerality and acidity with trademark smoky aromas.

From a steep cru on gneiss and marble in the cooler Spitzer Graben area of the Wachau, the 2021 Ried Bruck Spitz Riesling Federspiel opens with a deep, pure and intense, very elegant and complex nose with ripe Riesling aromas intermingled with enormously stony notes. On the palate, this is a spectacular, complex and refined Riesling with great intensity and terroir expression. The term Federspiel downsizes this Riesling a bit, although it is an elegant, medium to full-bodied wine that has the complexity, finesse and intensity of a grand cru. Definitely a wine to have from this superb vintage. The aftertaste is spectacular in its mineral tension and salinity.

A fruity style, yet this also has a vibrant structure as well as fine depth and intensity for the appellation. Combines cherry, blackberry, mineral and oak spice with a firm, bright structure. Fine length. Drink now through 2025. 245 cases made, 100 cases imported.

What a fascinating peachy, flinty and smoky nose this great dry Riesling has. Power, energy and vitality on the generous palate, but also a profoundly chalky and flinty minerality. Long juicy finish that pulls you back for more. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold. BX-12

Stones, stones, stones, intoxicating minerality on the nose of this rose makes you want to jump into a river and lick rocks. There are hints of cooked strawberry on the palate, but the stoniness is off-the-charts fun. Complex enough to drink alone, but would also pair with food.

In the arms race of bottle shapes and vibrant shades of pink, Jean-François Ott’s wines stand out for their restraint, even in Bandol. This wine channeled the hot, dry summer of 2022 into a silky texture that quietly undergirds a complex strawberry flavor, complete with the leafy tops. This is the first certified-organic vintage from the estate, and the health of the fruit is apparent in the elegance of the wine—lasting with mouthwatering savor, its acidity and tannins cleaning up after themselves like a neurotic houseguest. For me, elegance in rosé is defined by its ability to be simply delicious, but complex and rewarding under scrutiny—a test this wine passes with flying pink colors.

Dominio de Pingus 2020 Flor de Pingus

    Ribera del Duero
    Wine Advocate 94 Rating
There is around 20% new oak in the 2020 Flor de Pingus, and because it has a little younger vines (there was a land-consolidation project in La Horra in 2006!), there'll be some Garnacha starting in 2021 and maybe some oak vats for aging too. All this shows the direction, where he found structure and volume in the palate, with textured tannins. It's harmonious and elegant, aromatic and floral, perfumed and showy, with contained ripeness and around 14% alcohol. The palate is quite powerful, with abundant but fine tannins. R38-2
