  • Domaine Faiveley 2018 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru

    $399.99$2,100.00

    Burgundy France
    Wine Advocate 93-95 Rating
The 2018 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is performing very well, wafting from the glass with a deep-pitched bouquet of cassis, wild berries, incense, rich soil tones and woodsmoke. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, layered and broad-shouldered, with a deep and layered core, rich structuring tannins and ripe but succulent acids. Long and sapid, this is another excellent Clos Vougeot from Faiveley, and this cuvée seems to go from strength to strength every year.

Aromas of raspberries, cherries, sweet spices, raw cocoa and peonies preface the 2020 Beaune 1er Cru Clos de l'Écu Monopole, a medium to full-bodied, concentrated and vibrant wine with tangy acids, melting tannins and a long, saline finish. This is very promising. SP3-6

The 2020 Mercurey Vieilles Vignes wafts from the glass with aromas of cassis, loamy soil, dark chocolate and spices. Medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with a deep, layered core of fruit that's framed by powdery tannins and lively acids, it's a touch more muscular than the 2019 rendition.

A luscious, fruity style, offering black currant, black cherry, wet earth, vanilla and mineral notes. Dense, showing some grip on the extended finish. Overall, this is polished and harmonious. Drink now through 2033. SP6-9

Ripe stone fruit aromas, spanning peach, pineapple and yellow apple. It’s tangy and tactile on first attack, then the creaminess takes over giving a rounded feel. The lemon acidity then sweeps in and washes away the creamy ripeness, leaving a limey, lemony lick. It’s warm and sunny in aroma, so the palate surprises with its freshness and salinity.

Raspberry and dried orange peel play table tennis on the nose with an audience of Darjeeling tea, moist earth and dried field grass. The midpalate echoes the nose while at once channeling a red-and-black fruit mix that dances between your cheeks and doesn’t let you reduce the wine to one or the other. The finish is long, complex and welcoming.

Powerful yet elegant where fruits are prominent with white grapefruit juice, underripe papaya, and cactus pear. The acid is precise and prickly, bruised sage and resinous hoppy herbaceous notes persist. Shiny white stone on the finish.

The 2018 Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Moelleux is clear and seductively ripe on the elegant, still yeasty nose with a mineral backbone and its chalky background. Sweet and lush but fine and filigreed on the palate, this is a salty, frisky, elegant, densely woven and well-structured Haut-Lieu with fine tannins and a long, complex finish that is rich and finessed at the same time, with lingering piquancy and stimulating salinity. This 2018 is a very charming but also serious Chenin Blanc with fine tannins, good tension and aging potential. R33-5

  • Domaine Huet 2020 Vouvray Demi Sec Le Haut-Lieu

    $39.99

    Loire Valley France
    Wine Advocate 96 Rating
The 2020 Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Demi-Sec is clear, pure, subtle, deep and fresh, with highly refined chalky/sandy lemon aromas. Rich and intense yet silky textured and refined on the concentrated palate, this is a juicy, highly elegant, perfectly balanced, persistently salty and mouth-salivating Haut-Lieu with very fine tannins and a long, firm and pretty powerful but elegant and complex finish. Still more stringent than the Le Mont Demi-Sec in the beginning, but after aeration, this is not just a greatly finessed Chenin but one of the finest Haut-Lieu’s I have tasted from Huet. BX-9 R8-8
