Powerful yet elegant where fruits are prominent with white grapefruit juice, underripe papaya, and cactus pear. The acid is precise and prickly, bruised sage and resinous hoppy herbaceous notes persist. Shiny white stone on the finish.

The 2018 Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Moelleux is clear and seductively ripe on the elegant, still yeasty nose with a mineral backbone and its chalky background. Sweet and lush but fine and filigreed on the palate, this is a salty, frisky, elegant, densely woven and well-structured Haut-Lieu with fine tannins and a long, complex finish that is rich and finessed at the same time, with lingering piquancy and stimulating salinity. This 2018 is a very charming but also serious Chenin Blanc with fine tannins, good tension and aging potential. R33-5

  • Domaine Huet 2020 Vouvray Demi Sec Le Haut-Lieu

The 2020 Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Demi-Sec is clear, pure, subtle, deep and fresh, with highly refined chalky/sandy lemon aromas. Rich and intense yet silky textured and refined on the concentrated palate, this is a juicy, highly elegant, perfectly balanced, persistently salty and mouth-salivating Haut-Lieu with very fine tannins and a long, firm and pretty powerful but elegant and complex finish. Still more stringent than the Le Mont Demi-Sec in the beginning, but after aeration, this is not just a greatly finessed Chenin but one of the finest Haut-Lieu’s I have tasted from Huet. BX-9 R8-8

  • Domaine Jean Grivot 2022 Vosne-Romanee

    $124.99

    Cote de Nuits Burgundy France
    Decanter Magazine 94 Rating
The attractive medium-deep ruby color announces a pleasantly ripe plummy fruit with nuance of smoke and earth. The texture is supple, and yet there is sufficient tension and grip to draw this out to a lingering finish. It is still ageing in cask (20% new) and will be bottled in March according to the moon’s phase. It is a true ‘cuvée ronde’, a blend of 10 climats from around the village from the top, such as Aux Champs Perdrix, to the base of the slope at Pré de la Folie. SP1-6

  • Domaine La Tour Vieille 2022 Banyuls Rimage 500ml

    $29.99

    Languedoc Roussillon France
Grenache is picked slightly overripe, and only ferments briefly with whole bunches before alcohol is added, thereby stopping fermentation while there is still a considerable amount of residual sugar in the wine. The wine then macerates for another approx. 6 weeks before pressing. The palette is round and soft, without becoming alcohol-heavy. Here are lots of both red and black berries, and a nice little seasoning at the end.

All old vine Carignan, the 2019 Côtes Catalanes Tessellae from Jean-Marc Lafage offers a beautifully pure nose of red and blue fruits, brambly herbs, violets, and leather. This carries to a medium to full-bodied red with silky tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. It has impressive purity as well as elegance and is going to keep for 2-4 years.

Another lovely cuvée is the 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Village, an assemblage of eight different old-vine parcels dotted all over the commune. Offering up aromas of raspberries, cassis, orange rind and rose petals, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with fine concentration, lively acids and a seamless, elegant profile.

  • Domaine Louis Latour 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

    $199.99

Open and aromatic with honeysuckle flowers, dried apples and mangoes, as well as white peaches and stone. Full-bodied, this grows slowly on the palate with an intense, powerful finish. Lots of cream, cooked apples, lemons and light oak at the very end. Tight and right. Try after 2023. R22-3

Aromas of ripe apples and lemons with a lavender and honeysuckle undertone. It’s full-bodied with lovely firmness and form that gives the wine tension and focus. Hints of hay to the bright fruit in the aftertaste. R36-6
