Tasted after the other 2015s in this range, the Quartet, Arietta's entry-level offering, does not show a demonstrably significant drop in quality, which is probably the highest compliment I can pay it. Hints of raspberry jam, cedar, smoke and licorice add shades of nuance throughout. What a pretty wine this is. PRG

Each vintage we strive to capture the essence of the diverse soils, varietals and the unique terroir of Ehlers Estate. With a medium to full body and dark red color, it delivers concentrated aromas of ripe red fruit, raspberries, cherries, cassis, and smoky notes. We use only 40% new French oak, allowing the fruit to shine in the blend. Nice structured acidity; the mouth is dense with vibrant and complex flavors of red berries, smoky spices, and dried herbs. This wine has a long finish with dense silky tannins.

Robert Foley Vineyards 2019 Petite Sirah

This inky deep purple colored Petite Sirah from Calistoga might be Bob’s best yet. It opens with a mulberry and stewed plum bouquet with hints of sweet black olive, dark chocolate, espresso, and baking spice. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is well-balanced, smooth, velvety, and supple. The flavor profile is a loam and black raspberry blend with notes of minerality, oak, anise, and blueberry. We also detected hints of nutmeg and dark chocolate. The finish is dry, and its grippy tannins are very prolonged. The Tasting Panel would pair this Petite Sirah with a Tuscan veal chop, ox tail stew, or with osso buco. Enjoy – KWGTP
