Catena Alta 2021 Malbec
$49.99 – $246.00Mendoza Argentina
Vinous 95 Rating
The 2021 Malbec Catena Alta comprises 70% sourced from Gualtallary in the Uco Valley and the remaining portion from Luján and Maipú. Aged for up to 18 months in French oak barrels, both new and used, this purple wine reveals aromas of plums and cherries alongside hints of lavender and violets, all atop a subtle cedar layer. Dry and juicy, the supple and velvety tannins are complemented by a nimble flow, resulting in a mildly structured red with a flavorful, lasting finish. If there is a key in Mendoza Malbec, meaning piecing together terroirs to enhance complexity, this bottle might be the example.

Ramey 2017 Rochioli Vineyard Chardonnay
$59.99Russian River Valley Sonoma California
Wine Enthusiast 99 Rating
Only the third vintage by this producer from this spectacular site, this elegant wine is brimming in tension and length. Delicate layers of Meyer lemon, Gravenstein apple and pear show an abundance on the palate, seasoned in salty oak, nutmeg and a hint of cardamom. *Editors’ Choice* SPR1-9 -
Pride Mountain Vineyards 2018 Merlot Napa-Sonoma Counties 1.5 lt mag
$119.99California
Antonio Galloni 93 Rating
The 2018 Merlot is another very pretty wine in this part of the Pride range. Plump and juicy, with mid-weight structure, the 2018 is gorgeous right out of the gate. Succulent black cherry, plum, mocha, licorice and spice all flesh out effortlessly, with bright acids that keep the flavors lively. The restrained style is so appealing. CF-6 -
Maxem 2021 Pinot Noir UV Vineyard
$89.99Sonoma Coast California
Wine Advocate 96 Rating
Far West in the Sonoma Coast, just a short drive to the Pacific Ocean, lies one of northern California’s best Pinot & Chard vineyard, named UV after it’s founder Ulysses Valdez. Maxem is a micro-producer, basically just a husband and wife making wine in their garage. But this is really, really good garage wine, and on the radar of cult wine collectors. Full bodied, ripe, fruit forward and smooth, great as an aperitivo or with food. BX-12 -
Penfolds 2020 Bin 389 Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon
$49.99 – $240.00South Australia
Wine Advocate 96 Rating
Looking in on the 389 can be “'can be,” she says, parenthetically a good insight into what we can expect from the upcoming Grange. Now, they are very different wines, no question, however, stylistically they have much in common and the illumination into the season that birthed the wines in each instance. Here, the 2020 Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz has consummated polish and sleek tannins, imbued as they are with graphite, black tea, licorice and resin. The fruit is pure and black and chewy… gorgeous wine. And it lives for decades. This has always been a collector's dream and continues so through this vintage. Highly recommended.

Othello by Dominus 2021 Bordeaux Red Blend
$54.99 – $300.00Napa Valley California
James Suckling 96 Rating
Lots of blackberries, dark cherries and hints of orange peel and bark in the aromas. Medium- to full-bodied with fine creamy tannins that caress the palate. The tannic tension gives this focus and brightness. 85% cabernet sauvignon, 9% cabernet franc and the rest petit verdot. Hard not to drink now, but better in two to three years. R38-2

Sea Smoke 2022 Pinot Noir Southing
$119.99Santa Rita Hills California
A darling of the critics, Sea Smoke remains one of the Central Coast’s cult Pinot producers. Southing is sourced entirely from the Sea Smoke Estate Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills and sees 16 months in 28% new French oak barrels. After manual harvest, the grapes are entirely destemmed, encouraging a fruit forward delicateness. In recent years the winery has taken on a more Burgundian approach, minimizing extraction to allow the terroir to fully speak for itself.
