Bright, clean, and refreshing are the defining qualities of this wine. Characters of peach, nectarine, lemon-lime, honeysuckle, and orange blossom are brought to life by the wine’s crisp acidity, making it a crowd-pleaser for special occasions or any night of the week.

Col d’Orcia 2020 Rosso di Montalcino
$24.99 – $252.00Tuscany Italy
Antonio Galloni Vinous 91 Rating
The 2020 Rosso di Montalcino wafts up with a classic mix of earth tones, Tuscan dust and bright strawberries. It’s silky yet cool-toned in feel with inner violet and lavender tones over a core of tart wild berry fruit. The 2020 leaves a coating of youthfully grippy tannins, yet it keeps the mouth watering as sweet minty herbs slowly fade. This is a fun and fruit-focused Rosso that maintains wonderful balance, and I love how savory, almost salty it is at times.

The nose reveals vibrant red fruit and hints of unripe blueberries, complemented by savory herbs such as thyme and sage. Subtle spices and a touch of delicate violets add complexity, alongside a nuanced minerality. The mid-palate is lush and well-balanced, supported by refined, firm tannins and a rich, textural intensity. The wine demonstrates exceptional cohesion, with tension and freshness, culminating in a bright, lingering finish.

Chateau Maucoil 2018 Chateauneuf Du Pape Privilege
$59.99 – $600.00Southern Rhone Valley France
Jeb Dunnuck 92 Rating
The 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape Privilege was also all destemmed and checks in as 50% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 12% Mourvèdre, and the balance Cinsault, Bourboulenc, Clairette, and other permitted varieties. Brought up in 30% new barrels, its similarly deep ruby/purple color is followed by classic notes of smoked black fruits, ground pepper, garrigue, violets, and rocky minerality. Despite the new oak, it has a relatively classic style, both in its aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, it offers solid mid-palate depth, building tannins, and a great finish. This is another terrific, outstanding wine from this estate that’s going to have a long life. It can be drunk today with plenty of pleasure or cellared for 10-12+ years or more.

Domaine Daniel Pollier 2020 Saint Veran Les Trois Bousquet
$19.99 – $192.00Maconnais France
After subtle aromas of lemon, apricot, acacia and honeysuckle, on the palate a St-Véran (always made of Charodnnay) shows fresh focus and clarity while exhibiting roundness and harmonious balance. A great St-Véran will express notes of almond, hazelnut, cinnamon, butter or toast and sometimes an exotic twist of orange peel. Seafood risotto or pasta with mushrooms are perfect pairings.

Pavillon de Chavannes 2021 Cuvee Ambassador Cote de Brouilly
$26.99 – $276.00Beaujolais France
The southernmost cru of Beaujolais, Cote du Brouilly, also covers one of the smallest areas of any of the ten crus. Each is quirky in its own way with Cote du Brouilly being marked with an ancient volcanic soil and spotted blue stones that cover the hills of Mont Brouilly. Pavillon de Chavannes ‘Cuvée des Ambassades’ – named so as it’s the official wine of French embassies around the world – offers a medium bodied style that incorporates the flavors and characteristics of a Burgundian Pinot Noir but with the soft tannins, fruitiness and refreshing earthiness of an expertly grown Gamay. It bursts with black cherry, gritty minerality, and a floral bouquet that expands into spice and dried herbs.
