Hundred Acre Fortunate Son 2021 The Dreamer

    Price range: $159.99 through $900.00

    Napa Valley California
    Decanter Magazine 97 Rating
100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 30–32 months in ultra-tight grain French oak barriques. The wine displays a shimmering, lucid ruby color. Gorgeous, dusty, dark berry fruit unfolds with an incredible panoply of mulled Christmas spices and warm berry pie compote. Full-bodied and texturally defined, framed by a core of ultra-fine tannins with added dark berry fruit depth. It is a meal unto itself but better paired with roasted meats drizzled in rich plum sauce and accompanied by prosciutto-wrapped figs. R20-2 SP19-2 regular $199.99

In the glass, rich aromas of blackberry, crème de cassis and chocolate covered cherries mingle with a flinty minerality and hints of anise. This wine has an abundant entry with lush red and black fruit notes, showcasing the interplay of Cabernet and Merlot in the blend. Subtle expressions of oak, espresso and caramel rise up in the mid-palate and form a beautifully structured finish of fine grain dusty tannins. SP22-1

Petit describes the wine’s restraint and elegance, as snappy acidity and silky tannins match restrained alcohol. The Petit is packed with the aromas and flavors of Bing cherries, lemon zest, bittersweet dark chocolate and a wisp of coriander and oak spice. The wine feels soft and refined on the palate. It spent 20 days on the skins and nine months in a mix of stainless steel and French oak.

  • Immortal Estate 2016 Impassible Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

Immortal Estate 2016 Impassible Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

    $399.99

    Sonoma County California

A smaller selection and also all Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2016 Impassible Mountain (28 months in 85% new French oak) offers more of everything and is a magical, blockbuster, yet ethereal styled Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma. With a kaleidoscopic array of crème de cassis, sagebrush, tobacco, cedar pencil, and awesome minerality, it has incredible concentration, full-bodied richness, and a skyscraper-like mouthfeel, yet it also stays weightless, elegant, and flawlessly balanced. There are few estates coming close to this level of quality in Sonoma with Cabernet Sauvignon, and if you want to taste pure perfection from Sonoma, try this wine! It’s still a baby, and I suspect it will need 8-10 years to hit maturity, but it's going to evolve for 30-40 years. R16-3

Immortal Estate 2019 Slope Cabernet Sauvignon

    Price range: $84.99 through $480.00

    Sonoma County California

Bold and muscular, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Slope comes from the Immortal Estate Vineyard, which sits on the red volcanic soils on the Sonoma side of the Mayacamas mountains. Including 2% Petit Verdot and pouring an opaque black, potent and layered aromas lift from the glass, with menthol, cassis, toasted cedar, and vanilla. Fleshy and very full-bodied, its velvety sweet tannins and plummy fruit coat the palate, with fresh acidity and a long, toasty finish. A seductive wine, it will take time to lose some of its baby fat and reveal its more savory complexity. Drink 2025-2040.

  • Inglenook 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon

    Inglenook 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon

    $69.99

    Napa Valley California

The base cuvée is the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, which is 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, and 1% Malbec sourced all from Rutherford. It has a classic, Saint Julien-like bouquet of crème de cassis, tobacco lead, damp earth, and spice that gives way to a full-bodied, concentrated, textured Cabernet that hits all the right marks. The top Rubicon release has a touch more elegant and precision, but this isn't far off. Drink this stunner any time over the coming 20 years or more. SP25-8

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the most potent wines I have tasted from Inglenook in a long time. Readers should be patient, as the 2019 is a mere infant. A rush of black cherry, mocha, licorice, spice and leather builds as this sumptuous, towering wine gradually opens with a bit of aeration. I would give the 2019 at least a few years in bottle, as the grippy tannins need time to soften.

  • Jada Vineyard & Winery 2020 Jersey Girl Estate Bottled

Jada Vineyard & Winery 2020 Jersey Girl Estate Bottled

    $69.99

Willow Creek District Paso Robles California
The 2020 Jersey Girl embodies our love for not only blends but also co-fermentations. At the core of the blend is one of our darkest clones of Syrah, clone 383, and a co-fermentation of Syrah, Viognier, and Graciano harvested on the same day. Several other Syrah-based co-fermentations were blended into the Jersey Girl to add mid-palate richness, with color and spicy and earthy notes from the Graciano and Tannat. Overall, about 7% of Syrah was fermented as whole cluster to add more spice, floral notes, and complex fruit aromatics. R37-6

The deep purple/plum-hued 2021 Jersey Girl is mostly Syrah but includes 6% each of Graciano and Viognier. Aged 16 months in 80% new French oak, it has a killer bouquet of black and blue fruits, bacon fat, spring flowers, and violets. With full-bodied richness and a round, lush, yet seamless, focused texture, it’s another absolutely incredible wine from this estate that will knock your socks off any time over the coming decade. Joshua Harp’s Jada Vineyard, with help from Napa’s Tony Biagi, has leapt into the top handful of producers in Paso Robles over the last few years and these 2021s might be the best yet.
