Chateau de Beaucastel 2020 Chateauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes Roussanne
$189.99Southern Rhone Valley France
Jeb Dunnuck 98-100 Rating
Even better, the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Roussanne Vieilles Vignes comes from a single parcel of very old vines and is 100% Roussanne brought up in barrel. It too is medium to full-bodied and incredibly concentrated, with brilliant white currants, green almond, honeyed mineral, and spice-driven aromas and flavors. The balance is just about perfect, as is the purity of fruit, and this incredible white is one of the top releases in the vintage. As I’ve written in the past, it’s the Montrachet of the Southern Rhône and can evolve for decades in cold cellars. R35-1 -

Morlet 2018 Mon Chevalier Cabernet Sauvignon
$169.99Knights Valley Sonoma County California
Jeb Dunnuck 99 Rating
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Mon Chevalier comes from the Knights Valley, just north of Napa Valley in the larger Sonoma County, and it always seems to me to have one foot in Napa and one foot in Sonoma. Boasting a similar ruby/purple color (as do all of the releases here), it’s slightly more reserved and stately (knightly, if you will), with building aromas and flavors of blackcurrants, toasted bread, dried violets, baking spices, and loamy earth. These carry to a pure, full-bodied, multi-dimensional Cabernet that’s flawlessly balanced, has ripe yet certainly present tannins, a notable sense of minerality, and a great, great finish. It’s just another incredible wine from Luc Morlet that can be drunk today with ample pleasure or cellared for 20-30 years if, for some reason, you feel the need to delay gratification. SP25-6 -

Cool initial suggestions of lime, chalk, and buttered toast make way for decidedly sunny aromas of yellow apple, Anjou pear, peach and pluot sprinkled with white flowers. Making a luxurious texture in perfect balance with moderately tangy acidity, the fruit takes on a bit of a honeyed tropical cast in the mouth, with pineapple and mango ushering in a finishing dash of earthy lemon pepper on the long, fresh finish. The effect is effortlessly stylish.

Louis Dumont Brut Rose Champagne Epernay
$34.99 – $180.00Champagne France
The Champagne house of the Dumont family is situated on 23 hectares in Champignol-lez-Mondeville, in a village in the southern Champagne region of the Aube, some 90 miles southeast of Reims and Epernay. The Dumont Brut Rose is made exclusively from Pinot Noir. A selection is made in the vineyard from parcels that are particularly ripe and from bunches with deeply colored skins. Fermentation proceeds as with red wines but the wine is drawn off the skins after a day or so with the Dumont family looking carefully at the balance of extraction, color and tannin. This method, known as “saignee”, is a tricky art but one that can produce the most natural and delicately complex style of Rose champagne. Dosage ~10 grams.

While just bottled a week before this tasting, the 2019 Syrah Powerline Vineyard certainly wasn't showing any worse for it, offering a stunning bouquet of ripe red and black fruits as well as white pepper, sandalwood, tobacco, and new leather.
