  • Mayacamas 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder

Mayacamas 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder

    Price range: $129.99 through $750.00

    Napa Valley California
    Jeb Dunnuck 94 Rating
The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon is nevertheless a beautiful wine. Offering ripe black fruits intermixed with smoky herbs, graphite, and cedar pencils, it has medium-bodied richness, a pure, focused mouthfeel, firm yet integrated tannins, and outstanding length. This structured, Bordeaux-like effort is unquestionably a success in the vintage and should benefit from another 2-3 years of bottle age and shine over the following decade or so. It will be interesting to see if the fruit holds up to the tannins here when all is said and done.

  • Château Fortia 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Du Baron

Château Fortia 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Du Baron

    Price range: $44.99 through $222.00

    Southern Rhone Valley France
Château Fortia is not a winery that chases good press on a whim. These are consistent, classic wines that faithfully represent the region’s terroir year after year. The Cuvée du Baron, which combines 50% Grenache, 35% Syrah, and 15% Mourvedre, was created in the memory of the Domaine’s founder, Baron Le Roy de Boiseaumarie. The wine was first released in 2001. The wine went through a long, cool fermentation in small lots by varietal, then aged 18 months in old oak foudres prior to bottling. Deep garnet-purple in colour, this is a wine with a dense, complex nose and notes of plum and cassis and garrigue on a medium-bodied palate. This is a wine you can enjoy now or cellar for several years.

This deep and delicious “regular” bottling from Patz & Hall is fragrant in black cherries, pine needles and ground cloves before blackberries, black tea and hints of cinnamon and cedar play across the palate. At once full-bodied and well-balanced, the wine offers abundant fruits and spices on a moderately tannic texture. Best through 2030.

This vintage shows a remarkable aromatic profile of Mediterranean herbs, cassis, black cherries, leather and earth with a kind of gamey depth. Full-bodied, it shows velvety, slightly sandy tannins with a firm structure, refreshing integrated acidity and a savory cedar finish. Drinkable now, but best in one or two years. R35-6

  • Sea Sun Chardonnay

    Sea Sun Chardonnay

    Price range: $13.99 through $144.00

    California
A pale straw color with sunshiny highlights, Sea Sun has a subtle nose, with scents of lightly grilled mango, soft butterscotch, juicy red apple, and newly ripened pineapple and apricot. Hints of a springtime meadow, fresh sea air and a trace of smokiness add intriguing layers. Entry on the palate is round and creamy, with flavors of lemon curd and brown spice on the mid-palate. This wine’s fruit flavors, oak, and acidity are seamlessly integrated, with no one element standing out. The finish has a grippy, toasty quality, with notes of cinnamon and lemon squares. A final kick of bright acidity draws you back for another sip.
