Jean Manciat 2023 Macon-Charny Franclieu
Price range: $17.99 through $180.00Burgundy France
John Gilman View From The Cellar 92+ Rating
The single vineyard bottling of Franclieu from Jean Manciat is his finest terroir, with these thirty to thirty-five year-old vines planted on argilo-calcaire soils. The wine is fermented with native yeasts and raised in stainless steel tanks until bottling. The 2023 Franclieu is a touch lower in octane than the regular Mâcon-Charnay bottling in this vintage, coming in at 13.5 percent alcohol. It delivers a beautifully precise and more soil-defined bouquet of apple, pear, almond, chalky soil tones and a lovely floral topnote redolent of both white lilies and apple blossoms. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, zesty and complex, with a beautiful core of pure fruit, excellent mineral drive and grip, a lovely spine of acidity and a long, pure and impeccably balanced finish. This is outstanding Mâcon and more refined and soil-driven in personality than the regular bottling! 2025-2040.

The winery has been certified as a High Environmental Value (Haute Valeur Environnementale) Level 3 winery. Yellow color with golden and brilliant green highlights. It goes through 8 months on the less. Fine notes of ripe white fruits, such as pear, apricot and passion fruit. Jorge Ordonez 2021 Nisia Verdejo Old Vines

Jeb Dunnuck 90 Rating
All Verdejo, the 2021 Nisia is cut from the same cloth and has vibrant yellow fruits, citrus blossom, honeysuckle, and floral notes in its medium-bodied, clean, lively, pretty style. It's slightly fresher and more medium-bodied compared to the richer 2020. This cuvee spent 6 months in a mix of neutral puncheons and demi-muids.

Juan Gil 2020 Monastrell Silver Label
Price range: $13.99 through $150.00Jumilla Spain
James Suckling 90 Rating
Rich and fruity, but also deep, with ripe blackberries, figs, spice and dark chocolate on the nose. Just a hint of dried fruit here. This is restrainedly generous with a medium to full body, showing creamy tannins and a flavorful finish. A very solid monastrell. From organically grown grapes.

Juan Gil 2022 Monastrell Silver Label
Price range: $13.99 through $144.00Jumilla Spain
Wine Advocate 93 Rating
The 2022 Silver Label now shows the name on the label (and also “Etiqueta Plateada” in Spanish). It’s their first wine in their new era, which started in 2002, a wine that aims to promote the quality and potential of Monastrell. It matured in new and second-use French oak barrels for one year, but they were looking for lower toast and less impact of the wood in the wine than earlier vintages when it was 100% new oak. It has a paler color and a subtler and more floral nose, keeping the poise and showing surprisingly fresh for the conditions of the year. It’s ripe, reflecting the warm and dry weather, with 15% alcohol but very good freshness, coming through as balanced and harmonious, clean and pure. This is a bargain and a success for the year, a champion in drinkability. Bravo! 298,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2024.

Justin 2023 Chardonnay
Price range: $17.99 through $204.00Central Coast California
Bright, straw-colored with golden highlights and moderate tearing in the glass. Highly aromatic and lively on the nose with bright citrus notes, white flower, nuances of ripe pear, and hints of flint. On the entry, the wine shows a rounded texture and balanced freshness. Flavors of spice baked apple, Meyer lemon, ripe Bosc pear, and a touch of flinty minerality add layers of complexity. The wine’s lingering finish leaves a trail of nuanced citrus, orchard fruit, and vanilla spice that lingers on the palate.
