Symposium 2022 Bordeaux Supérieur
Price range: $15.99 through $84.00Bordeaux France
Enjoyabilityfactor 90 Rating
The soil of the vines is silicate and clay with pebbles in the subsoil. The vines are at least 25 years old. The grapes are selected at the sorting table with 100% destemming. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature between 28 and 30°C for 8 to 10 days, followed by an additional maceration of approximately 25 days, and malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for 6 months in oak barrels, 50% in new barriques and 50% in used barriques. The Symposium is deep dark. On the nose, it offers abundant fruit and a richness of fresh red berries such as cherries, some plums, and blackberries, with a light spiciness. The palate is flattering, maintaining the pronounced fruit at the forefront. But the Bordeaux freshness and the tannins are noticeable and very well integrated. A blend of 60% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Malbec.

Lush and lovely aromas of black cherry, cassis, cola and milk chocolate draw the nose into this blend from the Beaulieu Vineyard team. Blueberry and blackberry flavors are mixed with vanilla, caramel and chai on the somewhat formulaic yet still satisfying palate.

Taylor Fladgate 2019 Late Bottled Vintage Porto
Price range: $21.99 through $120.00Portugal
Deep ruby red with vivid purple highlights on the rim. The first impression is of intense woodland fruit with crisp brambly blackcurrant and blackberry aromas. The nose has a youthful freshness and vigour, the first burst of powerful, black berry fruit slowly revealing undertones of raspberry and cherry, scents of wild herbs and discreet warmer notes of liquorice and coffee. Although the aromas have a sensuous dimension, this elegant and polished LBV displays the characteristic Taylor definition and restraint..

Tenuta di Trinoro 2023 Le Cupole Red
Price range: $49.99 through $240.00Tuscany Italy
Wine Advocate 94+ Rating
The Tenuta di Trinoro 2023 Le Cupole hits its marks squarely, delivering luxurious quality at a highly accessible price point. The blend of 41% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Franc, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot shows dark fruit flavors of blackberry framed by velvety richness that spreads broadly across the palate. Crafted from the same high-elevation Val d’Orcia vineyards as the estate’s flagship wines, Le Cupole benefits from the same rigorous selection and low-yield philosophy. The 2023 tannins are especially well managed, giving the wine a more approachable personality.
