While a step back from the blockbuster 2012, Philippe Melka’s 2013 Pirouette is no slouch and offers serious amounts of ripe black cherry fruits, graphite, hints of chocolate and plenty of sweet oak in a beautifully concentrated, ripe, textured package. Made from 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 12% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc (mostly from Red Mountain) that spent 22 months in 75% new French oak, give bottle 3-5 years in the cellar and enjoy over the following decade or more. • Long Shadows 2017 Chester Kidder Red Blend

Long Shadows 2017 Chester Kidder Red Blend

    $49.99

    Columbia Valley
    Wine Enthusiast 93 Rating
Aromas of black fruit, anise, vanilla, cocoa and other barrel spices are followed by pitch-black, rich, hedonistic fruit flavors that bring the acidity and tannin structure of the vintage. It's intense, but with plenty of sophistication. A lengthy finish, caps it off. Best after 2025. R20-2

  • Long Shadows 2018 Feather Cabernet Sauvignon

Long Shadows 2018 Feather Cabernet Sauvignon

    $64.99

    Columbia Valley Washington
    Jeb Dunnuck 98 Rating
The classic 2018 Feather (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) comes from the Weinbau and Wallula Vineyards and spent 22 months in 90% new French oak. It has a wonderfully pure nose of crème de cassis, new saddle leather, dried flowers, and tobacco that carries to a medium to full-bodied, seamless Cabernet with a wonderful sense of purity, balance, and elegance, all while bringing plenty of fruit and structure. I actually like it today, yet it has enough tannins to benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age and should be long lived. R40-7 SP29-6

  • Long Shadows 2019 Sequel Syrah

    Long Shadows 2019 Sequel Syrah

    Jeb Dunnuck 95 Rating
The 2019 Syrah Sequel is a big, rich, meaty, powerful beauty offering copious amounts of ripe black fruits as well as ground pepper, chocolate, graphite, and spicy oak all soaring from the glass. It packs a punch, as always, with its ripe, sexy style, yet it shows the cooler, elegant style of the vintage beautifully and is balanced, has ripe tannins, and a great finish. It’s going to cruise for 10-12 years in cold cellars. regular $64.99 R14-4

As to the 2020 Syrah Sequel, this inky hued effort comes from a mix of sites on Red Mountain as well as the Boushey and Bacchus vineyards. I loved the 2020 Merlot Pedestal, which makes the most of the vintage. Full-bodied aromas and flavors of ripe plums, chocolate, spicy oak, and graphite define the aromatics, and it’s concentrated, has ripe, chalky tannins, plenty of mid-palate depth, and a great finish. The blend is 84% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance Malbec, raised in 75% new French oak. BX-12 R1-3

  • Lopez De Heredia 2012 Vina Tondonia Reserva

Lopez De Heredia 2012 Vina Tondonia Reserva

    $49.99

    Rioja Spain
    Decanter Magazine 94 Rating
After six years in barrel (produced at López de Heredia’s own cooperage) and three in bottle prior to release this is all you can expect from a classical Viña Tondonia with its focused intensity and muscular yet super elegant tannins. Assertive but also super silky, with juicy fruit gliding through the palate while being pleasantly pulled back by an energetic, smoky verve. Broody while at the same time mature – another accomplished vintage of a true classic. R26-3
