Piero Benevelli 2016 Barolo Le Coste di Monforte
$59.99Piedmont Italy
Vinous 95 Rating
The 2016 Barolo Le Coste di Monforte is gorgeous. Dried herbs, crushed flowers, mint, licorice, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco give the 2016 striking aromatic nuance to match its mid-weight personality. There is a sense of translucence in the 2016 that is just compelling. Deceptive in its mid-weight structure, the 2016 has a ton of richness that emerges over time. The Le Coste spent 25 months in 40HL cask. I loved it. R2-1 -

Delightfully light and breezy, with hints of almond flower, almond, and unripe peach intermingling with crisp apple notes. This minerally red is light on its feet and fresh, with orange peel acidity and a base note of tar-tinged smoke, joined by ripe red currant and raspberry fruit, hints of red licorice and wild herbs. James Suckling 97 Rating
Aromas of blackcurrants and blueberries with fresh sage and thyme, following through to a medium to full body with very polished tannins and cedar and sandalwood undertones. Some lavender and rose petals, too. Refined and polished. Needs three to four years to come together, but already beautiful. Drink after 2028, but hard not to taste now.

A bright red color, the 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino is floral and aromatic of preserved strawberries, baby powder, and herbes de Provence. Medium-bodied, it has refined ripe tannins, even acidity, and a clean, stony textured finish. A lovely and charming wine, it’s drinking well now and will drink well over the coming 8-10 years. -
Poggio Antico 2021 Madre Toscana
Price range: $49.99 through $270.00Tuscany Italy
The nose is delicious if more focused on Tuscan red cherries, strawberries and elderberries with a hint of sweet plums. The palate is fresh but with a good core of density. Some pretty tannins and a fruit-forward finish. Madre can already be enjoyed, but may also be aged for a long time, further improving its characteristics.
