Castello di Volpaia 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva
$39.99Tuscany Italy
Wine Spectator 97 Rating
Enticing aromas of black cherry, black currant and violet are allied to flavors of iron, wet earth and spice in this red, which is loaded with fruit, vibrant acidity and well-mannered tannins. Shows terrific harmony now, yet possesses the structure to age. The long, mouthwatering finish extends the dark fruit and mineral elements. Best from 2021 through 2040. SP49-3 -

Seven Hills 2012 Merlot Seven Hills Vineyard
$39.99Walla Walla Valley Washington State
Wine Advocate 90 Rating
A wine this estate’s been making for the past 25 years, the 2012 Seven Hills Vineyard Merlot is a big, rich, chewy wine that offers ample cherry, currant, licorice and spice to go with a full-bodied, ripe and nicely tannic feel on the palate. Made from 100% Merlot that spent 20 months in 40% new French oak, it’s outstanding, and will have 10-15 years of longevity. SP17-2 -

Opaque ruby. Floral aromas of black raspberry and cherry pit, with complicating spicecake and mineral nuances. Round and fleshy on entry, then more energetic in the mid-palate, offering vibrant red and dark berry flavors with no rough edges. This seamless, sweet blend finishes with excellent vivacity and terrific length. SP20-1 -

E. Guigal 2018 Gigondas
$39.99Southern Rhone Valley France
Wine Advocate 92 Rating
Guigal's 2018 Gigondas boasts floral, garrigue-laced aromas that lend complexity to notes of stone fruit and red raspberries. Full-bodied and concentrated, it's also supple and silky in feel, with a ripe, harmonious feel and a lingering finish. It's a testament to the Guigals' relationships in the appellation that this is one of their most delicious and consistent bottlings. R28-3 -

Chateau Coutet 2017 Barsac 375 ml
$39.99Sauternes Bordeaux France
Jeb Dunnuck 95 Rating
Another rocking sweet wine is the 2017 Château Coutet. This big, full-bodied, opulent beauty has serious notes of orange blossom, buttered citrus, and honey, yet also shows the more pure, precise, and elegant style of the vintage on the palate. The cool, overcast summer allowed good ripeness while preserving the purity of fruit and the whites (and dessert wines) from this vintage are beautiful! -

Always a good value, the 2018 Todos checks in as a kitchen sink blend of 45% Syrah, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Petit Verdot, 9% Petite Sirah, and the rest Merlot and other miscellaneous varieties. Its inky, glass-staining purple color is followed by a beautiful bouquet of smoked black fruits, bouquet garni, peppered meat, and hints of crushed rock. It’s rich, medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, and just a gorgeous wine. SP27-10
