The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Janzen Cloudy’s Vineyard comes from an estate vineyard located in the Dutch Henry Canyon, situated between the Switchback and Hourglass vineyards. Ripe currants, blueberries, leafy tobacco, iron, and chocolate all emerge from the glass, and it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a focused, elegant mouthfeel, a terrific sense of freshness, and outstanding length. It’s drinking nicely today, yet this beauty should easily have 15+ years of total longevity. SP11-5 -

The 2018 Chardonnay Upper Barn Vineyard was aged for 10 months in French oak, 46% new. It has a very classy nose of ripe peaches, fresh yellow apples and allspice followed by fresh ginger, cashew and acacia honey plus a waft of sea spray. Full-bodied, rich, satiny and with fantastic intensity and tension, it finishes very long and chalky. YUM!

The aromas deliver hickory and cherry wood smoke, dense blackberry and blueberry jam, cigar box, toffee, and crushed rock. Flavors of blackberry and black cherry intermingle with tobacco leaf, black licorice, and fennel bulb. The expansive tannins coat the palate, lending a warm, luxurious feel to the wine. The finishing tannins are very fine-grained and persistent.

The 2018 Château Larcis Ducasse checks in as 89% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc that comes from a gorgeous hillside terroir on the Côte Pavie, located between Château Pavie and Château Bellefont-Belcier. Aged 18 months in 60% new barrels, it offers a truly sensational bouquet of ripe blackcurrants, espresso roast, scorched earth, bloody meat, chocolate, iron, and bouquet garni. A massive, super-rich Saint-Emilion with a dense, concentrated, layered mouthfeel, it has building yet sweet tannins and incredible purity of fruit. Reminding me of the 2005 shortly after release, this heavenly juice offers astonishing richness and depth while staying flawlessly balanced and elegant. Sadly, there are less than 3,000 cases produced, but this monumental, legendary wine won't hit maturity for a good 8-10 years and will have 40-50 years of longevity if well stored. SP54-18 -

From a site not far from the Hourglass Vineyard, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Janzen Cloudy’s Vineyard is upfront and charming, with full-bodied notes of macerated black cherries, cedarwood, chocolate, and licorice. It’s a mouthfilling, sexy, opulent wine that grows with time in the glass, has solid mid-palate depth, building tannins, and a great finish. Drink it any time over the coming 15-20 years. R41-1
