From a top parcel in Sury-en-Vaux. The 2023 version of Les Boucauds is a blend of both Burgundy barrels (several from Etienne Sauzet in Puligny-Montrachet) and larger oak. Because of the deep clay and limestone soils, Les Boucauds always has great mouthfeel and depth, as opposed to Stephane’s silex and caillottes parcels which are more linear and austere in their youth.

Exotic aromas of orange zest, Campari-like spice and exquisitely ripe cherries appear on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is silky and creamy in texture yet airy and vibrant, with a long, zesty finish. It’s a definite candidate for wine of the vintage, alongside its Mourvèdre-based stablemate, La Part des Anges. Drink: 2025-2040. SP33-6

The palate offers plenty of purity, and it has a fantastic, savory finish, with ripe tannins and even acidity. It’s drinking well now, with a wide window for enjoying over the coming 15 or so years.
