A single vineyard iteration, drawing fruit from an historically crucial site, quite steep and chalky-calcareous and dropping to the Adige river. Corvina (80%) and oseleta (20%). No dried fruit. The brusque, firm and punchy nature of oseleta’s tannins are evident on the attack. Yet the mid-palate is spherical and energetic, serving to mitigate any sense of stiffness, while splaying anise, mint, leather varnish and dark, saturated berry. This is a very good wine, built for the cellar. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.

Some reductive lees-driven framework compresses hints of jasmine, stone fruit allusions, almond husk and spruce. The finish eases over the structural seams to good, sappy length. Nice drinking.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is a charming, sweetly fruited effort with loads of character. First produced in 1985 and all from estate fruit, aged in 70% new barrels, its healthy purple hue is followed by forward notes of redcurrants, darker berries, tobacco leaf, and loamy earth. Medium to full-bodied, with a layered, sexy, rounded style on the palate, it's perfect for enjoying any time over the coming 10-12 years or more. SP21-2 -

The single-varietal Altamura 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for nearly 3 years in barrel, is deep garnet-purple in color. It opens with earthy/savory notions of tree bark, black truffle, dried herbs, and Indian spices leading to a core of stewed plums, redcurrant jelly, and boysenberries plus nuances of tobacco leaf, dried mint, and fallen leaves. The medium to full-bodied palate is fantastically elegant and refined, with red berry sparks lifting the dense black fruits supported by plush tannins and bags of freshness, finishing long and minerally. This is impressive!”

The 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino is a youthful red color and is expressive in the glass with notes of ripe strawberries, grenadine, crushed roses, sweet herbs, and licorice candies. Medium-framed, it has refreshing ripe acidity, fine, well-defined tannins, and a clean, even finish with fantastic, elegant length. Offering both refined complexity and true drinking pleasure, with nothing heavy or weighted, it’s fabulous all around, with notes of stone fruit on the finish. A highly appealing Brunello with a lot to enjoy over the coming 15 years, I would be thrilled to have bottles in my cellar to check in on regularly.
