The 2019 Red Wine checks in as 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Cabernet Franc, 14% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot. Unquestionably outstanding, it has ripe cherries and assorted blacker fruits, notes of tobacco, peppery herbs, and graphite, medium-bodied richness, and ripe, supple tannins. I like it today yet see no reason it shouldn’t evolve for a decade or more.

The baking spice, dark raspberry and anise aromas provide appeal. Broad-feeling, textured flavors follow, with cranberry-tart acidity and brawny, firm tannins backing it up. It's an extremely impressive offering of this variety, showing its more serious side—Washington Merlot at its best. It will shine at the dinner table and will have a long life in front of it, seemingly near immortal.

The Fattoria Carpineta Fontalpino 2018 Chianti Classico Fontalpino (made with organic fruit) is a special wine with a hint of raspberry or candied orange peel that is specific to this bottle from Castelnuovo Berardenga. This is one of the most Pinot Noir-oriented Sangiovese wines I have tasted from this slightly warmer Chianti Classico subregion. The wine is delicate, polished and perfect for a pork loin roast with onions and potatoes. Nice job.
