Chateau Pedesclaux 2020 Red Blend Pauillac
$69.99 – $300.00Bordeaux

The 2020 Château Pédesclaux reminds me of the 2016 with its concentrated, pure, classic Pauillac style. A blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it has a great nose of pure blue fruits (currants, cassis) as well as ample lead pencil, chalky minerality, and violet aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, and elegant on the palate, it has the purity and polish to shine even today, yet my money is on it benefiting from 4-6 years of bottle age, and it should evolve gradually over the following 15+ years.

Vermillion by Keplinger 2019 Red Blend
$29.99 – $300.00California
Jeb Dunnuck 91 Rating
A kitchen sink blend (I think it’s mostly Grenache) that’s 80% from the Sierra Foothills and the rest from Sonoma and Napa, the ruby-hued 2019 Vermillion is a fruit-forward, incredibly charming, satisfying red offering medium-bodied aromas and flavors of spiced red fruits, sandalwood, and white and black pepper. It’s beautifully balanced, has fine tannins, no hard edges, and a clean, dry finish that keeps you coming back to the glass.

This is a focused cabernet that has ripe plums, blackberries, tea leaves and dark chocolate on the nose. It’s medium- to full-bodied with fine-grained tannins and a nicely linear and balanced finish. Drink or hold.

So much ash and dried-strawberry character. Burnt orange-peel undertones. Tar, too. It’s full-bodied with chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Lots of rose petals. This needs four or five years to open, but nicely integrated now.

Department 66 Others 2016 Rhone Red Blends from Maury
$26.99 – $300.00Roussillon South of France France
Aromas of ripe blue fruits and berry compote are complemented by herbal and floral aromas of garrigue and dried lavender. Concentrated plum and dark fruit flavors give way to mountain spices and dried herbs. A persistent backbone of tannin and acidity adds structure, balance and a lengthy finish on the palate.

Grattamacco 2021 Bolgheri Rosso
$29.99 – $300.00Tuscany Italy
Jeb Dunnuck 92 Rating
The 2021 Bolgheri Rosso is floral with ripe raspberry and boysenberry, pine, violet, and balsamic. It is medium to full bodied, with nice concentration in its notes of black cherry, red plum, and turned earth. A great value that packs a lot of wine for the dollar, it is a great introduction to the style of the estate.

Blended with 19% Sémillon cofermented in stainless steel, this is from the producer’s estate in the eastern outskirts of the valley. Herbal legume, metal and stone are light in weight and style, with lovely, lasting flavors of green apple, apricot and tangerine.

Tenuta di Arceno 2019 Riserva Chianti Classico DOCG
$29.99 – $300.00Tuscany Italy
Jeb Dunnuck 93 Rating
The 2019 Chianti Classico Riserva (90% Sangiovese and the rest Merlot) takes on more spiced layers of smoke, cedar, menthol, and blackberry. It is full-bodied, with snappy acidity and fine tannins, and is noted with redcurrant, orange zest, tea leaf, and clove. Hold another year or two and drink 2025-2035.
