Fattoria Le Pupille 2022 “Poggio Valente” Toscana Rosso
Price range: $29.99 through $150.00Tuscany Italy
Wine Advocate 95 Rating
Here is another knock-out bottle in this group of new releases from Fattoria le Pupille. The 2022 Poggio Valente is punchy and bright with terrific clarity of fruit. Winemaking has shifted over the years to prioritize larger oak botte. This change has allowed for more varietal expression with blue flower, heritage rose, tart cherry, rye bread and crushed stone. The wine’s flavor signature is wholly Mediterranean with hints of rosemary and lavender. The effect is especially luminous and lifted in 2022. This is an elegant wine with a unique voice.

Fattoria Le Pupille 2020 Saffredi Maremma Toscana
Price range: $99.99 through $540.00Tuscany Italy
James Suckling 98 Rating
Impressive aromas of fresh herbs from the Tuscan coast, such as sage, mint, rosemary and thyme. Blackcurrants, too. Full-bodied with fine, chewy tannins that show beautiful length and consistency. Racy and beautiful, with lots of subtle and refined character. Slightly more cabernet sauvignon this year, which adds class to the wine. 80% cabernet sauvignon, 10% merlot and 10% petit verdot. Give this about three or four years of bottle age. Try after 2027. SP44-15

Fattoria Le Pupille 2022 Saffredi Maremma Toscana
Price range: $119.99 through $600.00Tuscany Italy
Wine Advocate 98 Rating
This is one of only a handful of wines made on the Tuscan Coast that has managed to interpret the vintage in such an excellent manner. The Fattoria le Pupille 2022 Saffredi (a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot) deftly plays upon the elegance and fruity brightness of the growing season, while also harnessing its freshness and its slightly more streamlined appeal. The wine is nuanced and layered with fine details that recall wild berry, spice, blue flower and blood orange. To my mind, the 2022 stands apart from almost every other past vintage of Saffredi. This is a new direction for the wine that we can all happily embrace.

Faust 2019 The Pact Cabernet Sauvignon
$99.99Napa Valley California
The Pact 2019 lives up to Faust legend with beautiful dark blueberry and blackberry aromas over layers of crushed rock minerality, haunting forest notes and hints of violet. With the texture of velvet—luxuriously dense—the palate wraps that core of blue and back fruit with the barest edge of bright cherry spiced with star anise and savory dried tarragon. Silky tannins and generous ripe fruit linger through an endless, vibrant finish. There’s a long life ahead for this Cabernet. SP27-2 -
Faust the Pact 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville
Price range: $99.99 through $570.00Napa Valley California
James Suckling 95 Rating
So strong but subtle and silky on the surface and muscular underneath. Very concentrated, tight and powerful, with mineral, iron, cocoa and chalk flavors on a foundation of superfine, powdery tannins. It’s pretty but dense, beautifully concentrated, full-bodied and well balanced.

Grown in the southern, cooler end of the valley and brought up in a mix of new and used French Oak, this is quintessential Coombsville, expressing the volcanic soils and cool temperatures with textural and aromatic intensity. The stunning 100% Cabernet Sauvignon mesmerizes at the first swirl of the glass with seductive aromatics of dark currants and cassis accented by candied violets, pencil lead and tobacco. The full-bodied palate offers flawless balance, seamless tannins, and a long, supple finish. This will age gracefully for multiple decades. SP30-1 -

This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon features big, round, silky, and lush blackberry flavors with sagebrush nuances and dark chocolate. It is full-bodied with a rich, dense black and blue fruit core, complemented by tantalizing acidity. Dazzling in its opulence, it is perfectly balanced by superb, fine-grained tannins and bright minerality. Favia is the project of husband-and-wife duo viticulturist Annie Favia and winemaker Andy Erickson R12-3 SPBX-3 -
Ferrari Brut Sparkling Trentino
Price range: $29.99 through $156.00Alto Adige Italy
Vinous 91 Rating
Distinctly savory, the NV Brut Trentodoc opens with a blend of dusty dried flowers, cardamom and freshly sliced pears. It fills the palate with a silken bead of fine bubbles, taking on a salty-to-sweet sensation as tactile mineral tones mix with ripe orchard fruits. This finishes with admirable length and candied citrus twang, tapering off remarkably fresh. I love the balance and complexity here, especially for a Non-vintage Brut. Disgorged: 2023.

This well-balanced, well-structured and handsomely complex wine emphasizes ripe plum and red-cherry flavors and accents them with subtle cinnamon, cedar and mint notes. Light tannins and a medium to full body lend a mouthfilling texture while lively acidity adds a fresh lift.
