Cayuse 2016 Syrah En Cerise Vineyard
$139.99Walla Walla Valley
Jeb Dunnuck 99 Rating
The 2016 Syrah En Cerise Vineyard is another winner (best to date?), showing an incredibly bloody, iron quality as well as beautiful purity in its bright cherry, blackberries, violets, pork fat, and acacia flower aromas and flavors. Seamless, silky, gorgeous, and perfectly balanced, it's another heavenly wine from Baron that’s going to benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and cruise for 10-15. R10-1 -
Cayuse 2017 Syrah Cailloux Vineyard
$139.99Walla Walla Valley
Jeb Dunnuck 97 Rating
The only Syrah that includes some Viognier, the 2017 Syrah Cailloux Vineyard (this is the same site used for the Viognier) is always a great representation of the vintage as well as the wines of Christophe Baron. Ruby/purple-hued, with a rocking bouquet of black raspberries, smoked game, black pepper, and spring flowers, it has plenty of classic Rocks funkiness and meaty notes, medium to full body, a core of sweet fruit, and a great, great finish. It ranks with the top two to three wines in this vintage. It opens up nicely with time in the glass and shows well today, and it’s certainly going to cruise for 15+ years or more. R27-2 -
Cayuse 2019 Syrah En Chamberlin Vineyard
$139.99Walla Walla Valley
Jeb Dunnuck 99 Rating
Gorgeous Bing cherry and blueberry fruits as well as tobacco, peppery herbs, iron, and mushroom notes all emerge from the 2019 Syrah En Chamberlin Vineyard, another medium to full-bodied, incredibly seamless, flawlessly balanced Syrah in the lineup. I love the overall mix of savory, classic Rocks style with its beautiful core of fruit, and it has incredible tannins, beautiful balance, and a great, great finish. Flirting with perfection, this straight-up incredible Syrah will evolve nicely for 25 years or more. Best After 2022. SP19-2 -
Ceretto 2016 Barbaresco

Bright cherry and strawberry fruit glides over a backbone of dusty tannins in this linear red. Balanced and harmonious, with a long aftertaste that shows floral, tobacco and spicy notes. Best from 2023 through 2043. SP44-2 -
Cervantes 2016 MMXVI Cabernet Sauvignon
$128.99Napa Valley California
Wine Advocate 96+ Rating
A blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, the deep garnet-purple colored 2016 MMXVI Cabernet Sauvignon gives up gregarious notions of warm red and black currants, black raspberries and warm plums with hints of chocolate mint, pencil shavings and tilled loam plus a waft of lilacs. Full-bodied and grainy, the palate is built like a brick house with super ripe tannins and bags of bold, expressive, multifaceted fruit, finishing very long and mineral-laced. 545 cases were made. Chapelle St. Theodoric 2020 Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Guigasse
$99.99Southern Rhone Valley France
Wine Advocate 95-97 Rating
Scents of roses, garrigue and blackberries mark the nose of the 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape La Guigasse, still aging in demi-muids at the time of my visit. It's one of those special wines that manages to be full-bodied and concentrated, yet also pillowy-soft, nearly ethereal in the mouth. A bit more tannic and stern on the finish than the 2020 Le Grand Pin, it finishes long, with a lingering note of licorice. 100% Grenache. R18-2 -

Looking first at the 2021 Cabernet Franc, this beauty is based on 78% Cabernet Franc, 7% each Merlot and Malbec, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Red and black currants, fresh figs, savory flowers, spicy wood, and some camphor notes all soar from the glass, and it’s medium to full-bodied, with a pure, elegant mouthfeel, beautiful tannins, and outstanding length. This is a stunning Cabernet Franc to enjoy over the coming 15 years or more. R29-3

Charlie Clay 2021 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley
$49.99Sonoma County California
On the nose, aromas of black cherry flesh, river stone, crushed violent candy and tangerine rind comingle with delicate sweet-soil tones. On the palate, sweet red fruits, black truffle and a strong mineral vein get support from a core of polished tannins and freshness. This precise structure provides an element of tension and purpose. While just starting to show its layers of detail, this wine will drink beautifully over the next 5-8 years. Only 239 cases made. R17-3 -
Chateau Batailley 2010 Grand Cru Pauillac
$169.99Bordeaux France
Wine Advocate 95 Rating
Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux 2010 tasting. A strong performance from Batailley under blind conditions, easily surpassing its showing at the UGC in London last year. The 2010 has a very elegant bouquet with blackberry, cedar and leather, well defined and very nicely focused, though not the most vigorous amongst its peers. The palate is very well balanced with filigree tannins, perfectly judged acidity and a very appealing “classic” style of Pauillac very the top drawer. What a superb Pauillac – a benchmark Batailley.
