  • Leonetti Cellars 2010 Merlot

    $129.99

    Walla Walla Valley Washington State
    Wine Advocate 93 Rating
The Leonetti 2010 Merlot – which, unlike any preceding vintage save for 2000 and 2008, was blended with no other variety – offers a perfect validation of Chris Figgins’s intention to render a serious, self-standing wine from this grape capable of starring in Washington if given the right, sufficiently clay-rich and thermally temperate sort of site. Fresh dark cherry and purple plum already announced in the nose take on a delightful primary juiciness and invigoratingly tart fruit skin edge on a fine-grained palate. This is so exuberantly juicy and saliva-stimulating in its long, lip-smacking finish – a feature no doubt enhanced by bottling after only 14 months in barrique, and justifying the release of Leonetti Merlots a year ahead of their other wines – that you can’t possibly take just one sip. Piquant fruit pit, crushed stone, and peat add interest and stimulation to an energetic yet lusciously ripe and richly-textured effort whose longevity will, I predict, surprise most wine lovers (perhaps even its authors?) and extend for more than a dozen years. The intended Merlot self-sufficiency on exhibit here is furthered by Figgins’ increasing reliance on grapes from their relatively cool, long-ripening Mill Creek Upland Vineyard, with fruit from Seven Hills or Loess more apt to end up being selectively blended into their other reds or sold off. • Leonetti Cellars 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon

    $139.99$690.00

    Walla Walla Valley Washington State
    Jeb Dunnuck 98 Rating
The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon checks in as 82% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% each of Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc from a mix of sites in the heart of the Walla Walla Valley. Its dense purple/plum color is followed by beautiful bouquet of pure cassis, leafy tobacco, chocolate, spicy oak, and graphite. This carries to a powerful, concentrated, burly, yet incredibly well-balanced Cabernet with a great mid-palate, a layered, building, powerful texture, beautiful tannins, and outstanding length. This blockbuster, serious, age-worthy beauty needs 3-5 years of bottle age (it will probably take a decade to hit maturity) and will have 2-3 decades of longevity.

  • Les Vins de Vienne 2018 Condrieu La Chambée

    $59.99

    Northern Rhone Valley France
For fans of the Viognier grapes, no appellation is better in my opinion than Condrieu. When allowed to express itself and not over burdened with oak, this is a gorgeous yet delicate wine. Light golden in color. The nose is so pretty with white flowers, quince and peach. On the palate, this dances across the tongue. It is delicious with the quince and peach coming thru along with underlying minerality. While this should drink well for another five years, this is a wine that rewards drinking young. R17-1

  • Lewis Cellars 2015 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

    $179.99

    Napa Valley California
    Jeb Dunnuck 95 Rating
The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is similarly colored yet has more density as well as structure. Ripe plums, vanilla bean, singed spice, white chocolate, and scorched earth notes all flow to a powerful, full-bodied 2015 that has the classic, sexy fruit of the vintage front and center. With ample tannins, good mid-palate density, and terrific length, this beauty can be drunk today with a decant or cellared for over a decade. R18-4 SP24-2

  • Lewis Cellars 2017 Alec’s Blend Napa Valley

    $59.99

Supple and polished, with plump blackberry, toasty, mocha and spice flavors that glide on a lingering finish toward silky tannins. Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. SP19-2

Lewis’s 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon is dark hued and seemingly impenetrable to light. Black cherries and plums mark the nose of this full-bodied wine. It’s rich, thick, even almost a touch oily, supple and super ripe yet not raisined and tinged with mocha and dark chocolate on the lingering, velvety finish. It’s a statement-making style that some will likely detest, while others will adore.

  • Lillian 2019 Syrah

    $124.99

    California
From the one and only Maggie Harrison, this cult-worthy Syrah is off the charts. The bouquet is a complex dance of dark fruit preserves, sandalwood, sweet flowers and spice-cake with mineral notes in the background. The fleshy, vivacious palate is packed tight with blueberry and violet. The finish is oh so long, framed in flowers and velvety tannins. Truly a knockout Syrah with the bones to age beautifully if you can keep your hands off it. R14-2

  • Limerick Lane “1910 Block” 2014 Russian River Valley Zinfandel

    $69.99

    California
    Wine Advocate 96 Rating
My highest score went to the 2014 Proprietary Red 1910 Block, which comes from an historic terroir planted in 1910. The plot is 4.7 acres, and while it is dominated by Zinfandel, the likes of Peloursin, Négrette, Syrah, Petite Sirah and Carignan are also found there. Those varieties are all co-fermented together for this wine, which was aged 18 months in neutral oak and 100% destemmed. Inky purple, it offers up notes of blackberry and blueberry liqueur with creosote, charcoal, earth, licorice and underbrush. It has a dense, full-bodied, opulent texture, beautiful, plush tannins, and adequate but relatively low acidity. This big, juicy, exuberant, hedonistic fruit bomb should drink well for another 7-8 years. The finished alcohol is 15.1%. SP16-1
