Mauritson 2019 Rockpile Ridge Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
$69.99Sonoma County California
Wine Advocate 95 Rating
Blended with 13% Malbec, 10% Petit Verdot and 1% Merlot and displaying a deep ruby-purple color, the 2019 Rockpile Cabernet Sauvignon Rockpile Ridge Vineyard has broody tar and blackcurrants on the nose to begin, unfolding as it airs in the glass to wafts of lavender and menthol. The full-bodied palate is powerful and grainy, with bright acidity to balance its concentrated fruits, and it finishes long and spicy. -
Maxem 2021 Pinot Noir UV Vineyard
$99.99Sonoma Coast California
Wine Advocate 96 Rating
Far West in the Sonoma Coast, just a short drive to the Pacific Ocean, lies one of northern California’s best Pinot & Chard vineyard, named UV after it’s founder Ulysses Valdez. Maxem is a micro-producer, basically just a husband and wife making wine in their garage. But this is really, really good garage wine, and on the radar of cult wine collectors. Full bodied, ripe, fruit forward and smooth, great as an aperitivo or with food. BX-12 -
Mayacamas 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder
$129.99Happy Canyon Santa Barbara County
Vinous 97 Rating
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a pretty rich, bombastic wine, especially for Mayacamas. A blast of dark fruit, incense, tobacco, licorice, spice and mocha hits the palate. I would give the 2019 at least a few years in bottle to settle down, as it is quite the powerhouse today. This is an unusually flamboyant wine with plenty of richness and a bit less in the way of subtlety. The opulence of the vintage comes through loud and clear. R10-3 -
Mayacamas 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder
Price range: $129.99 through $750.00Napa Valley California
Jeb Dunnuck 94 Rating
The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon is nevertheless a beautiful wine. Offering ripe black fruits intermixed with smoky herbs, graphite, and cedar pencils, it has medium-bodied richness, a pure, focused mouthfeel, firm yet integrated tannins, and outstanding length. This structured, Bordeaux-like effort is unquestionably a success in the vintage and should benefit from another 2-3 years of bottle age and shine over the following decade or so. It will be interesting to see if the fruit holds up to the tannins here when all is said and done.

Maynard’s 40 Years Old Aged Tawny Porto
Price range: $129.99 through $690.00Portugal
40 year old tawny is always lovely to drink, as the constituent wines have spent so long in oak barrels that the water content has partially evaporated, concentrating the flavors. This has developed a lovely intense palate with flavors of caramelized nuts and burnt orange rind. There is a high level of acidity which cuts through the richness. Absolutely delicious and good value for the style.

Merry Edwards 2015 Pinot Noir
$64.99Russian River Valley California
Wine Enthusiast 95 Rating
Made from grapes sourced from several sites across the appellation, this shows deft winemaking skill in its velvety, gritty texture and beautiful aromas and flavors of cured meat, rose petal and Asian five spice. Bright acidity lifts the tones of cranberry, rhubarb and mushroom earthiness, with a touch of crushed stone. R25-1 -
Merus 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
$117.99California
Jeb Dunnuck 97 Rating
A killer bottle of Napa Valley magic, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon from Merus is 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot. It’s a powerful, full-bodied, uber-ripe beauty that stays lively and balanced, with beautiful blue fruits, as well as smoked tobacco, chocolate, and scored earth-like aromas and flavors. A beast of a wine with a great mid-palate and velvety tannins, it should shed its considerable baby fat over the coming 4-6 years and have two decades of overall longevity. R1-4 -

Morlet 2018 Mon Chevalier Cabernet Sauvignon
$169.99Knights Valley Sonoma County California
Jeb Dunnuck 99 Rating
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Mon Chevalier comes from the Knights Valley, just north of Napa Valley in the larger Sonoma County, and it always seems to me to have one foot in Napa and one foot in Sonoma. Boasting a similar ruby/purple color (as do all of the releases here), it’s slightly more reserved and stately (knightly, if you will), with building aromas and flavors of blackcurrants, toasted bread, dried violets, baking spices, and loamy earth. These carry to a pure, full-bodied, multi-dimensional Cabernet that’s flawlessly balanced, has ripe yet certainly present tannins, a notable sense of minerality, and a great, great finish. It’s just another incredible wine from Luc Morlet that can be drunk today with ample pleasure or cellared for 20-30 years if, for some reason, you feel the need to delay gratification.
