Domaine Charvin 2019 Chateauneuf Du Pape

The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape from Laurent is the usual blend of 82% Grenache and the rest nearly equal parts Syrah, Mourvèdre, Vaccarèse, and Counoise that was brought up all in concrete tank. It shows the sunny, spicy, Provençal style of the vintage beautifully while still having incredible freshness in its red and black fruits as well as garrigue, ground pepper, spring flowers, and incense aromas and flavors. Gorgeous on the palate as well, this medium to full-bodied Châteauneuf du Pape is balanced and has terrific tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. Rhône lovers need to have this beauty in their cellar, and it's going to offer pleasure for a solid two decades. R21-2 -

The 2019 Château Phelan Segur from Véronique Dausse is another brilliant Saint-Estèphe in the vintage, and this estate plays in the top handful of Saint-Estèphes out there. Offering lots of darker currants, spiced plums, Iron, tobacco, and damp earth on the nose, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a concentrated, tannic, yet balanced mouthfeel, and a great finish. It needs to be forgotten for a good 5-7 years and will be a brilliant wine over the following two decades. Best After 2027. R29-1 -

Chateau Lagrange 2015 Bordeaux Blend Saint-Julien Grand Cru
$69.99Bordeaux France
Wine Enthusiast 95 Rating
One of the furthest west of the Saint-Julien estates, this property has been greatly improved with investment from Japanese owner Suntory. The wine from 2015 is dense and impressively concentrated, perfumed black-currant fruits working well with the crisp acidity and solid structure. Drink from 2025. R9-1 -

Branaire-Ducru 2019 St-Julien
$69.99Bordeaux France
Wine Advocate 95 Rating
The 2019 Branaire-Ducru unwinds in the glass with aromas of raspberries, blackcurrants, sweet soil tones and hints of cigar wrapper, rose petals and cedar. Medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, it's youthfully tightly wound, with terrific concentration, tangy acids, powdery tannins and a long, saline finish. While this is a little reserved out of the gates, its energy and classical proportions will richly reward bottle age. SPBX-6 -
Casanova di Neri 2012 Brunello di Montalcino
$69.99Tuscany Italy
Wine Spectator 95 Rating
Effusive aromas and flavors of raspberry, cherry, floral, mineral and tobacco are at the center of this linear, vibrant red. Well-structured, this offers terrific length on the sinewy finish. Best from 2020 through 2035. SP42-4 -
Luigi Einaudi 2013 “Terlo Vigna Costa Grimaldi” Barolo
$69.99Piedmont Italy
Decanter Magazine 95 Rating
Though Terlo is predominantly east facing, Einaudi's Costa Grimaldi vineyard curves southward, creating a southeastern exposure. The wine is aged in a combination of medium-toast French barriques, 10% new, and five hectolitre French and Austrian casks. Smoky and grilled at first, it then opens up to reveal enticing black pepper, graphite and fragrant black tea nuances. It is concentrated and layered without being heavy, and the fruit is supported by firm, confident tannins. SP45-1 -

This has the profile of the vintage down pat, delivering a beam of focused and dense cassis, plum and black cherry reduction notes that cruise along, while flashes of alder and sweet tobacco peek through. Ripe and solid, with a harnessed feel throughout. BX-6
