Malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak barrels. The 70% of the wine is aged for 12 months in 2nd and 3rd use French oak barrels of 225 liters. It then rests in the bottle for 6 months. Deep in color with purple hues and very bright. Great varietal typicity and spices are appreciated. It is a wine with an expressive center of mouth. Great balance and complexity from the oak ageing. It is deep and elegant, so it persists in the mouth and has a long finish.

The 2021 Malbec Alta Collection comes from San Pablo in the Uco Valley and was aged for 12 months in a combination of first and second-use French (95%) and American oak barrels (5%). Purple in hue. The raw nose offers fruity aromas of plum and cherry accompanied by mountain herbs and violets. It’s dry and juicy on the palate with taut tannins and a tart, refreshing mouthfeel that establishes a nimble, easygoing flow. This is a precise mountain red from a cool year.

Unctuous, rich and big for an Albarino, but incredibly delicious. It’s fresh and slightly tropical with a creamy mid-palate resulting from lees aging. Finishes smooth with a nice hint of saline.

Zorzal Wines 2016 Eggo Tinto de Tiza
$19.99Tupungato Mendoza Argentina
Wine Advocate 95 Rating
The incredible 2016 Eggo Tinto de Tiza was cropped from one of the coolest years in recent times, which provided a slow ripening of the grapes and resulted in wines with higher natural acidity. This wine is now exclusively Malbec from Gualtallary. It fermented with 10% full clusters and indigenous yeasts in egg-shaped concrete vats, where the wine matured for ten months. It’s super aromatic, with notes of thyme, oregano, spices and something earthy, like the countryside after the rain. It’s young and has an explosive, vibrant palate with electric acidity and chalky tannins. 2016 could very well be the finest vintage to date, one of those vintages that will be legendary. This is just unbelievable for the price. -
Zuccardi 2014 Malbec Concreto
$39.99Mendoza Argentina
Wine Advocate 95 Rating
The wild nose of the new 2014 Concreto Malbec transported me to the Northern Rhône (Côte-Rôtie), or even better the Valais mountains in Switzerland. It is fermented and matured in concrete vats, hence its name. The grapes come from a very calcareous soil in Altamira in the Uco Valley. The nose mixes the violet aromas and those wild herbs, rockrose and spices, but also a saline side, and a mix of black olives and smoke. Raspberry leaf perhaps? There is a different character, they have taken away all that gives sweetness to the wine, searched for chalky soils, used part of full clusters and only cement was used for the fermentation and élevage. The wine is dry, but the tannins are sweet. There is very good length and persistence here. A naked Malbec. I believe this wine might have a beautiful evolution in bottle and it would be even better in a fresh vintage. Groundbreaking Malbec! An awesome value for money too! 6,000 bottles produced.
