Gurrieri 2024 Terre Siciliane Frappato
Price range: $29.99 through $150.00Sicily Italy
Frappato is a surprising grape. Sicilian wine is not supposed to be bright, crunchy, and zesty like this one. It is certainly not supposed to clock in at a cool 12.5% alcohol; not even Etna Rosso, grown at thousands of feet above sea level, does that. Yet here Frappato is, a juicy and delicious counterpoint to Nero d’Avola, and an increasingly popular alternative for grape growers and wine drinkers alike. The Gurrieri family grows their Frappato on the southern coast, dedicated to organic practices. This latest vintage offers a fresh blast of raspberry, strawberry, and smoked orange peel on the nose. The palate is crunchy and crisp, and tastes of the raspberries that fall off the bush when you try to pick them and a dusting of black pepper. As you work your way through the glass, light chalky tannins build up on the finish, something to chew on while you eat fresh pasta, fried calamari, or margarita pizza.

Gust 2019 Syrah Petaluma Gap
$29.99Sonoma California
Wine Enthusiast 95 Rating
Effusive aromas of black figs, toasted oak, espresso beans and turned earth lead to dense, layered flavors of blackberries, wood smoke, black pepper and star anise. This is a fascinating, complex and rather tannic wine that’s sure to keep improving with time. Best 2027–2037. SP12-6 -
Hacienda Lopez de Haro Crianza
Price range: $13.99 through $144.00Rioja Spain
Cherry color, with russet tones around the rim. Assemblage of aromas from the barrel (cream, cocoa, and vanilla) with black as well as ripe fruits. Typical Tempranillo licorice aromas at the end with spicy notes. On the palate, it has a pleasant, elegant profile and it shows fresh sensations from beginning to end. A good structure, provided by the Tempranillo variety, but with the velvety character of its barrel aging. In the end it is reminiscent of cherry and leaves a very pleasant unctuous feeling.

Harlan Estate 2018 Bordeaux Blend
$1,800.00Oakville Napa Valley California
Jeb Dunnuck 100 Rating
Stunning on every level, the 2018 Proprietary Red Wine reveals a dense purple hue as well as an incredible bouquet of crème de cassis, graphite, crushed stone, iron, violets, and tobacco. Reminding me of a hypothetical blend of Ducru Beaucaillou and Pontet Canet from a great, classical vintage (or a more elegant version of the 2013 for simplicity), it's medium to full-bodied, perfectly balanced, powerful yet elegant, and has a finish that won't quit. This is pure gold in Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s already drinkable yet will benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age and have 40 years of prime drinking. SPBX-3 -
Hartford Court 2014 Pinot Noir Arrendell Vineyard

What is usually their finest Pinot Noir hails from Hartford’s oldest vines, planted with the Martini clone in 1975. The 2014 Pinot Noir Arrendell Vineyard is often not picked until after Halloween, as it is one of the coldest vineyards in the Russian River Valley. Its spicy, complex notes of allspice, sassafras, sweet black cherries and Asian plum sauce are exotic, fragrant and intense. The superb fragrance is matched by an exotic, silky, fleshy wine with dark berries (especially ripe raspberries and black cherries), soft tannins, and full body. This is a head-turning “wow” Pinot Noir to drink over the next decade. R15-1 -

From the oldest vines planted in the 1970s, the 2015 Pinot Noir Arrendell Vineyard is a perfumed, spicy wine that's just singing on the nose. Ripe cherries, raspberries, candied orange, and exotic spices give way to a medium to full-bodied, supple, seamless Pinot Noir. It has bright acidity, sweet, vibrant, fruit, notable tannin, and a great finish. Like a lot of the wines here, it has the fruit to shine, but this is certainly one of the more structured and tannic wines in the lineup. SP7-4 -

Also from the Green Valley portion of the Russian River Valley, from two separate blocks in the vineyard, the 2015 Pinot Noir MacLean's Block offers ample black cherries, exotic darker fruits, some toasty oak, medium to full body, and a lush, rounded, deep style on the palate. This cuvée sees a touch of whole cluster inclusion and is aged in 29% new French oak. Give this savory, rich, concentrated (masculine even) Pinot Noir a few years and enjoy over the following decade.
