I Greppi 2022 Greppicaia Bolgheri Superiore
$59.99 – $300.00Tuscany Italy

A highly luxurious style, the 2022 Greppicaia pours a dark purple/red color and is very pronounced and saturated with layered oak spice, toasted vanilla, cedar, boysenberry, plum, cigar box, and polished leather. While the oak is quite forward, this is a wine of high quality, with a bright spine of ripe acidity to balance it out and a full-bodied, broad-shouldered and well-defined, ripe texture that doesn’t feel weighted. It has a very long, salty finish with bright redcurrant fruit lasting long on the palate. I can’t help but be impressed here, although it’s going to need several years in a cellar and is built for the long haul. Most stores $79.99

Graphite and lead pencil is coming through, together with violets and blackberries. Some tar and asphalt, too. Full-bodied, yet creamy and crunchy, with agile liveliness that goes on for minutes. Fabulous length. Drinkable already but will age gracefully for decades. SP46-6 -

Far Niente 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

James Suckling 96 Rating
Very precisely polished and focused wine with aromas of black cherries, blue berries and violets followed by green bell pepper, black ink and gravel. Underlying umami notes, too. Full-bodied, firm yet finely grained juicy tannins with bright acidity that balances out the palate. Beautifully integrated toasty notes and baking spices on the mid-palate and in the finish. Flourishing and artful wine that will age gracefully. Try after 2027. SP21-2 -

Effusive aromas of black figs, toasted oak, espresso beans and turned earth lead to dense, layered flavors of blackberries, wood smoke, black pepper and star anise. This is a fascinating, complex and rather tannic wine that’s sure to keep improving with time. Best 2027–2037. SP12-6 -

Gassier Rose 2024 Rose
$19.99 – $96.00Cotes de Provence France
Enjoyabilityfactor 91 Rating
A blend of Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah and Vermentino. The grapes were harvested at night, ensuring a cool temperature and limiting the risk of oxidation. This was followed by direct, slow and gentle pressing, reducing contact between the skins and the juice to preserve the freshness and lightness of the fruit, while avoiding excessive coloring of the juice. The juice was carefully fermented at a low temperature to preserve its fresh, delicate aromas. The palate opens with fresh flavors of strawberry, açaí and papaya, with a kiss of vanilla and a touch of peppery spice on the long, juicy, chalky mineral finish.

Saint-Damien 2021 Gigondas Vieilles Vignes
$39.99Southern Rhone Valley France
Vinous 95 Rating
Vivid ruby. A highly fragrant bouquet evokes candied red fruits, smoky minerals and lavender; a spicy nuance builds as the wine opens up. Sappy and penetrating on the palate, juicy raspberry, cherry and floral pastille flavors show good heft, seamless texture and real energy. It finishes spicy and impressively long, with sneaky tannins adding a final grip. This is shaping up to be a highly impressive entry-level bottling, which is not surprising given that this is the only Gigondas that will be bottled this year, so all the juice from the Louisiane and Souteyrades is going into this wine. Get it, lots of it, if you can. Raised in neutral, 50 hectoliter oak foudres. R5-2
