Saxum 2023 4hearts Vineyard
$199.99Willow Creek District Paso Robles California
Wine Advocate 95 Rating
Typically one of the most distinctive wines in the Saxum portfolio, the 2023 4hearts Vineyard is no exception and is an incredibly sturdy example, fitting as the last vintage of the cuvée. It is composed of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Petite Sirah and 25% Zinfandel made with 25% stem inclusion and a 22-month élevage in 225-liter and 300-liter barrels, half of which are American oak from Canton. The American oak component is prevalent yet harmonious from the outset. A red-fruited, resinous and gourmand nose introduces a dense, compact palate livened by bracing acidity. It finishes on a focused, taut note supported by grainy yet refined tannins that will benefit from a few years in the cellar to integrate. SP22-2 -

Saxum 2023 G2 Vineyard
$199.99Willow Creek District Paso Robles California
Jeb Dunnuck 98 Rating
Based on 72% Grenache, 13% Syrah, 6% Mataro, 5% Graciano, and 4% Carignan, aged 22 months in a mix of amphora and French oak, the 2023 G2 Vineyard boasts a sensational perfume of dark berries, black cherries, scorched earth, graphite, and peppery, floral nuances. It’s full-bodied, with a seamless, textured mouthfeel, ripe yet polished tannins, and that rare mix of richness with elegance. This shows the warmer style of the vintage while staying light on its feet and, oh, so drinkable. I love it today, yet it has at least 15 years of prime drinking ahead of it. Drink 2025-2040. La Bette by Jeff Carrel 2020 Cotes du Roussillon Villages
Price range: $19.99 through $192.00Languedoc France
As lively as you could wish, La Bette graces any table with amazing ease! Everything about this wine is reminiscent of this lovely Southern region: the generosity of its ubiquitous, juicy dark fruits, the feisty character that comes through in its lightly spicy notes and its immediacy, which recalls pleasure in the good things in life. Even the label is a homage to Languedoc: ‘bette’ is the name for the typical fishing boats of Côtes Catalanes. If you love Roussillon, then this is for you!

Chateau Brane-Cantenac 2019 Bordeaux Blend Grand Cru Classe
$99.99Margaux Bordeaux France
Jeb Dunnuck 96 Rating
One of the standout Margaux, the 2019 Château Brane-Cantenac shows more elegance and finesse in its tannins and structure than most. Giving up a beautifully complex nose of cassis and black raspberry fruits as well as cedary spice and spring flowers, it’s medium to full-bodied on the palate, has a seamless mouthfeel, beautiful purity and precision, and a great finish. This is certainly the finest vintage I’ve tasted from this Chateau, surpassing even the 2018, although comparing these two vintages side by side over the coming years will be a true treat. Drink this beauty any time over the coming 20-25 years. Best after 2022. SP52-6 -

This wine has a dense character, with rich fruits and blackberry flavors heightened by the tannins. Because of the heat of Margaux, the wine is rich while always elegant. Organic and biodynamic. SP47-6 SPBX-6 -

Chateau Brane-Cantenac 2020 Bordeaux Blend Grand Cru Classe
$99.99Margaux Bordeaux France
Jeb Dunnuck 97 Rating
This estate has been on a roll, and their 2020 Chateau Brane-Cantenac is another brilliant wine that readers will love. Largely in the mold of the 2019, it has a deep purple hue as well as an incredible bouquet of blackcurrants, black cherries, freshly sharpened pencils, tobacco, and flowers. This medium to full-bodied, richly textured, concentrated, yet remarkably elegant 2020 has the vintage’s fresher, focused, elegant profile but still brings plenty of flesh and opulence. Beautifully done, it’s going to evolve for a solid 30 years in cold cellars and offer incredible pleasure all its life. Best After 2027. SP47-6 -

Far Niente 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

The Tasting Panel 97 Rating
Made with grapes sourced from Rutherford, Calistoga, St. Helena, and the winery’s home in Oakville that aged 17 months in French oak, this impeccably balanced and complex red is as elegant as it is emotive. Blackberry and clove-spiced cedar line the mouth, erupting with graphite and espresso. Finely grained tannins adhere to dusty plum and lavender. Most stores $119.99

Wayfarer 2023 Pinot Noir Wayfarer Vineyard
$94.99Sonoma Coast California
Wine Spectator 95 Rating
Offers beautifully rendered notes of hibiscus, rose petal, damson plum and mulberry that stretch out lengthily thanks to the fine-beaded acidity and taut, precise tannins. The sapid finish lets in tea and incense hints amid the glistening fruit. Best from 2026 through 2036. 1,300 cases made. R43-4 BX-18
