  • Scribe 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon

    Scribe 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon

    $89.99

West Side Atlas Peak Napa Valley California
    Enjoyabilityfactor 97 Rating
Vividly “Graves-like” in both its flavor profile and elegant style, this is the best Scribe Cabernet yet produced. The nose is a focused perfume of ripe black cherry, Italian Maraschino cherry, black currant, blueberry, grilled black fig, cedar, leather, graphite, charcoal, mocha, peppercorn and dark pipe tobacco scents. The wine is amazingly seductive already, as the texture is racy yet tongue-coating, and the flavors of diamond clarity. A core of syrup drenched Amarena cherries holds center-stage on the palate, with all the other promised elements seeming to follow in lock-step. The finish is ultra-long and the expected gripping tannins are polished into softness and then smothered by a wave of flavor. This beauty will be glorious if allowed the five to ten years its concentration suggests, yet it is so delicious now that few bottles are likely to remain when it achieves full maturity. Only 650 cases produced. SP25-1

  • Sea Smoke 2020 Chardonnay Santa Rita Hills

Sea Smoke 2020 Chardonnay Santa Rita Hills

    $79.99

    Santa Barbara County
    Decanter Magazine 96 Rating
Just a shade riper and richer in tone than Sea Smoke’s 2021 Chardonnay, this is a sumptuously peachy, blossomy wine with a luscious, lactic creaminess that lingers long through the finish. Still, it shares Sea Smoke’s calibrated style – its a rich, powerful wine with freshness and precision. Pure fruit anchored by a salty, crystalline minerality, it wears its French oak hues (10 months in French oak, 24% new) with delicacy and grace. Delicious now but structured enough to hold. R37-1

  • Sea Smoke 2022 Pinot Noir Southing

Sea Smoke 2022 Pinot Noir Southing

    $99.99

    Santa Rita Hills California
    The Tasting Panel 97 Rating
A darling of the critics, Sea Smoke remains one of the Central Coast’s cult Pinot producers. Southing is sourced entirely from the Sea Smoke Estate Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills and sees 16 months in 28% new French oak barrels. After manual harvest, the grapes are entirely destemmed, encouraging a fruit forward delicateness. In recent years the winery has taken on a more Burgundian approach, minimizing extraction to allow the terroir to fully speak for itself. BX-12

Winemaker Dan Schroeder reflects on the character of Sea Smoke’s estate vineyard. “In terms of its unique climate and soils and the meticulous care and thoughtfulness that went into its planting, there is really no other vineyard like it in California.” The vineyard is a monopole, planted only to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in one of the only east-west coastal ranges in the U.S. The wine is named for the ten top clones of Pinot Noir, and the wine is aged 16 months in 56% new French oak. Charmed by exotic notes of Asian Five Spice and unearthed blueberries, layers of Red Delicious apple pair with notes of pennyroyal minerality. It finishes with rose petals laced with anise and black cherries dotted with sweet basil.

Each year, Sea Smoke’s goal for Southing is to create the ideal marriage of complexity and elegance. The ever-changing nose of the Southing exhibits fresh currant, slight strawberry and rose aromas with notes of dried fruit, fennel, clove and nutmeg. The fine tannins and minerality are enhanced by the estate vineyard’s characteristic cool climate acidity. R35-3
