Morlet 2018 Mon Chevalier Cabernet Sauvignon
$169.99Knights Valley Sonoma County California
Jeb Dunnuck 99 Rating
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Mon Chevalier comes from the Knights Valley, just north of Napa Valley in the larger Sonoma County, and it always seems to me to have one foot in Napa and one foot in Sonoma. Boasting a similar ruby/purple color (as do all of the releases here), it’s slightly more reserved and stately (knightly, if you will), with building aromas and flavors of blackcurrants, toasted bread, dried violets, baking spices, and loamy earth. These carry to a pure, full-bodied, multi-dimensional Cabernet that’s flawlessly balanced, has ripe yet certainly present tannins, a notable sense of minerality, and a great, great finish. It’s just another incredible wine from Luc Morlet that can be drunk today with ample pleasure or cellared for 20-30 years if, for some reason, you feel the need to delay gratification. SP25-6 -

Moulin de Gassac 2023 Picpoul de Pinet
$11.99 – $120.00Languedoc France
Enjoyabilityfactor 91 Rating
From vineyards very near the oyster beds on the Mediterranean Sea, this wine is a classic example of why Picpoul is known as the “Southern Muscadet”. Intriguing, briny mineral notes in both the nose and mouth provide the perfect backdrop for fish and shellfish. Some melon and citrus flavors keep you coming back for more and the crisp acidity assures that your palate does not tire from this zesty wine. Most stores $14.99.

Wine Advocate 91 Rating
Mainly Petite Sirah blended with Sangiovese, the 2015 Proprietary Red Blend Gravity is deep garnet-purple colored with profound crushed black and red currants notes over chocolate box, beef drippings and scorched earth with touches of dried herbs and truffles. Medium to full-bodied, it's very firm and chewy with lovely lift and a long, earthy finish. JB

Mount Peak Winery 2021 Rattlesnake Zinfandel
$49.99 – $480.00Sonoma County California
Rattlesnake Zinfandel is a tribute to the crest called Rattlesnake Hill, the highest point of the Monte Rosso Vineyard. It’s famous for the rattlesnakes living among the vines, seeking sunshine by day and coiling around the vines at night. This Zinfandel is bold and boisterous, with intense layers black cherry, raspberry, licorice and Sichuan pepper. Vanilla and graham cracker undertones linger on the long finish – this wine lives up to its name in every way, possessing a power that strikes with intense force.

A polished and frankly toasty style, with a cocoa note draped over a core of plum sauce and steeped black cherry fruit flavors. Long and fine-grained through the finish, with a melted licorice element checking in along the way. For the fruit-loving crowd. Drink now through 2032.

Muga 2021 El Anden De La Estacion Crianza
$19.99 – $90.00Rioja Spain
Wine Advocate 91 Rating
Rioja El Andén is an exciting new project launched by the Muga family of Rioja. Unlike traditional Rioja, in which workhorse Tempranillo dominates the flavors and aromas, the star of the show in Rioja El Andén is the Garnacha grape, also known as Grenache, which makes up a hefty 30% of the blend. Deep ruby in color, this charming red offers generous flavors and aromas of pomegranate, red cherry, raspberry, spice, and black pepper, with a hint of vanilla. It is elegant and well-structured, with a silky texture and well-judged acidity.
