  • E. Guigal 2017 La Landonne Côte-Rôtie

    $399.99

    Northern Rhone Valley
    Jeb Dunnuck 97-100 Rating
A ripe, sexy nose of smoked game, truffly earth, chocolate, and jammy black and blue fruits emerge from the 2017 Côte Rôtie La Landonne. Made from 100% Syrah from the schist soils of the La Landonne lieu-dit, aged four years in oak, this massive, full-bodied 2017 shows the sexier, riper style of the vintage, yet it has incredible tannins, a deep, layered mid-palate, and nothing out of place. It will be interesting to see if it hits the heights of past great vintages, such as 2015, 2010, 2009, 2005, or 2003, but it’s certainly in the same ballpark. R13-1

Powerful, refined and luscious, with a surplus of dark plum, kirsch and cassis flavors that are unctuous and long. Shows plenty of grip, presenting a long, full finish, filled with Asian spice and raspberry tart accents. Rich and chocolaty. One for the ages. Best from 2030 through 2060. Only 5,000 cases made. From a series of great sites, including Gap’s Crown, this wine opens in earthy barnyard notes that meet strawberry and red licorice flavors. Well-textured and lush in style, it delivers a note of sweet oak that works well with the fruit.
