  • Alvear 1927

Alvear Pedro Ximénez Solera 1927 (375 ml)

The NV Pedro Ximenez Solera 1927 is non-vintage, but does have some 1927 material in it. This is totally dark brown/amber with notes of figs, toffee, caramel syrup, molasses and coffee. It is dense, super sweet, intense, rich and an amazingly, unctuously textured, thick beverage to consume slowly and introspectively after a meal. Drink now through 2050, or even longer.

Amapola Creek 2014 Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard

    $34.98$180.00

    Sonoma County California
    Wine Advocate 94 Rating

The 2014 Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard is slightly less potent (15.5%), but production is about the same (670 cases). Dense opaque purple, with a big, sweet blackberry and cassis nose of camphor, roasted meats and hints Provençal herbs and pepper, this rich, full-bodied, inky Zinfandel should drink nicely for at least a decade as well.

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Helena Dakota (445 cases) is absolutely magnificent. Opaque black/purple in color, it comes across like a Château Montrose from a great vintage – a very earthy St.-Estèphe-inspired wine with the essence of loamy soil and crushed rocks interwoven with blackberry and cassis fruit. Some oak makes an appearance, but it is pushed to the background by the extravagance and enormous body and extract of this wine of phenomenal intensity. This is a classic Pierre Seillan style of wine meant for 25-40 years of cellaring. R4-4

  • Ancien Pinot

    Ancien 2015 Pinot Noir

    $39.99$227.94

    Carneros California
440 cases produced. The focused concentration of this vintage gives us a spiced nose with vibrant sour black raspberry and wild cherry cola notes. The luxurious palate is loaded with dark berries and combines seamlessly with hints of dark chocolate, anise, and Brazil nut. The palate is full of textural, mouth-coating tannins balanced by a bright acidity. The chewy tannins, earthy spices and minerality complement the fruit and floral notes signature to this wine. The palate will continue to develop in opulence over years of aging, revealing even darker layers and more earth notes.

From a vineyard known better for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, this lovely aromatic white is well crafted and fruity, dry with a creaminess to the texture that's beguiling without becoming too much. Lemon, quince and apricot flavors provide a bright, lingering fleshiness that will work deliciously at the table. It spent six months in neutral French oak.

A blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 5% Petite Sirah, 5% Syrah and 3% Malbec, the deep garnet-purple colored 2014 Oyster Ridge offers up notions of fresh cassis, cloves, plums, black berries and black cherries with hints of toast and beef drippings. Medium to full-bodied, the taut palate is firmly structured with ripe, grainy tannins. Possessing great harmony and depth, it gives a good long spicy finish.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is a terrific value and is 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Petit Verdot, and the rest Petite Sirah. It has a Bordeaux-ish bouquet of new saddle leather, cedarwood, tobacco leaf, and smoky black fruits as well as medium body, plenty of fruit, sweet tannins, and a good finish. It’s not going to make old bones, but it has serious character, and I’d happily drink bottles over the coming 4-6 years. Drink: 2018-2024.

Renegade comes from Ancient Peaks' estate Margarita Vineyard on the historic Santa Margarita Ranch. From missionaries to gunslingers, rough riders to outlaws, a colorful cast of characters has traversed the ranch’s rugged terrain since the 18th century. In that spirit, Ancient Peaks has made an intensely flavored blend that pushes the envelope and resists conformity, adding an adventurous twist to the family of wines. Defiantly bold and daringly elegant—this is Renegade.
