Paul Hobbs 2023 Crossbarn Chardonnay Sonoma Coast
Price range: $29.99 through $312.00California
Jeb Dunnuck 92 Rating
Bright yellow/green-hued, the 2023 Chardonnay Sonoma Coast is bottled under screwcap and is lifted and fresh with lime, white flowers, green apples, and lemon zest. It’s fantastic on the palate, with ripe acidity, a silky, stony texture, elegant ripeness, and a cleansing finish. A great value, it’s lovely now, but don’t feel hurried with this one.

Enjoyabilityfactor 90 Rating
Lovely and bright—a quintessential rendition of Paso Robles Sauvignon Blanc. Tantalizing aromas of grapefruit, pineapple, gooseberry and quince reveal floral impressions of lemongrass and acacia, all balanced by notes of lychee and wet stone. The palate is classily structured and elegantly styled, displaying crisp, juicy fruit flavors that burst across the palate, including lemon chiffon, key lime pie and kiwi accented with green apple, white nectarine and pineapple. Decisively refreshing, this wine finishes clean with lingering notes of dragon fruit, passionfruit and citrus.

Frédéric Magnien is a fifth-generation winemaker from Morey-Saint-Denis. Learning the craft from his father, Michel Magnien (of Domaine Michel Magnien), Fred also traveled to hone his talents in other fine wine regions before returning home and starting his own négociant domaine in his native village. He differentiates himself from other négociants in that he works closely with partner growers throughout the growing season. His own teams tend these mostly older-vine vineyards according to organic and biodynamic methods and harvest the grapes, ensuring quality from field to bottle. Remelluri 2016 Rioja Reserva
Price range: $49.99 through $420.00Rioja Spain
Wine Advocate 93 Rating
The estate red 2016 Reserva comes from a late growing season and was produced with local varieties like Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano, and others from their 86 hectares of vineyards at 590 to 805 meters in altitude on limestone, sandstone and marl soils. The grapes were picked late with good ripeness and health and fermented with natural yeasts in stainless steel and open-top oak vats and then matured in oak containers of different sizes for 20 to 21 months. These are more classical wines, with a more evolved nose, with high ripeness and some balsamic and medicinal notes. It has a dusty palate with Nebbiolo-like tannins. 300,000 bottles and 8,200 magnums produced. It was bottled in May 2019.”

Long Shadows Pedestal 2020 Merlot
Price range: $59.99 through $300.00Washington State
Jeb Dunnuck 94 Rating
I loved the 2020 Merlot Pedestal, which makes the most of the vintage. Full-bodied aromas and flavors of ripe plums, chocolate, spicy oak, and graphite define the aromatics, and it’s concentrated, has ripe, chalky tannins, plenty of mid-palate depth, and a great finish. The blend is 84% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance Malbec, raised in 75% new French oak. BX-12 R1-3
