Vietti 2019 Castiglione Barolo
$69.99Piedmont Italy
Wine Advocate 95 Rating
This is the most accessible Barolo from Vietti and the wine that casts the biggest net in terms of fruit sourcing from across many MGA sites. The 2019 Barolo Castiglione is a layered and generous wine that reflects the main takeaways offered by this very successful vintage. In fact, because this wine is not from a single site, it speaks more to the quality of the vintage than it does to any one specific vineyard. The Castiglione reveals generous richness and concentrated cherry fruit with dark saturation and good structure that comes from the thicker skins developed on Nebbiolo grapes this year. It concludes with a salty mineral note that adds focus and elegance. R18-4 -

Poggio al Tesoro 2021 Sondraia Bolgheri Superiore
Price range: $99.99 through $510.00Tuscany Italy
James Suckling 97 Rating
Aromas of blackcurrants and blueberries with fresh sage and thyme, following through to a medium to full body with very polished tannins and cedar and sandalwood undertones. Some lavender and rose petals, too. Refined and polished. Needs three to four years to come together, but already beautiful. Drink after 2028, but hard not to taste now.

Merus 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
$117.99California
Jeb Dunnuck 97 Rating
A killer bottle of Napa Valley magic, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon from Merus is 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot. It’s a powerful, full-bodied, uber-ripe beauty that stays lively and balanced, with beautiful blue fruits, as well as smoked tobacco, chocolate, and scored earth-like aromas and flavors. A beast of a wine with a great mid-palate and velvety tannins, it should shed its considerable baby fat over the coming 4-6 years and have two decades of overall longevity. R1-4 -

Heitz Cellar 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon
$59.99Rutherford, Napa Valley California
Antonio Galloni 91 Rating
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is a pretty rich wine for Heitz. Dark fruit, spice, leather and chocolate are all dialed up in this juicy, succulent Cabernet. The 2019 is a wine of transition at Heitz. It is the first vintage in which a part of the wine was aged in casks (new at the time), which left some uncharacteristic wood notes in the wine that show up in its racy personality. There’s certainly plenty to like. SP24-8 -

Titus 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon

Aromas of ripe blackcurrants, dried raspberries, spices, cedar and bark. Full-bodied with a mellow, fruit-forward character and creamy texture to the tannins. Delicious and smooth with a velvety finish. SP16-6 -

Herman Story Wines 2020 Casual Encounters
$69.99Paso Robles California
Inkier colored, the Casual encounters is a blend of 58% Mourvèdre, 34% Syrah, and 8% Grenache. Lots of mulled black fruits, smoked meat, barbecue, and peppery notes emerge from the glass. It’s full-bodied, super-rich, and concentrated, yet still stays light on its feet and beautifully balanced. It’s a classic, sweetly fruited, sexy wine to enjoy over the coming 5-7 years or so. Ridolfi 2018 Brunello di Montalcino
$39.99Tuscany Italy
Wine Enthusiast 94 Rating
The intensely herbal nose starts with a powerful flash of anise, then softens with notes of fennel, sage, soil and cherries. On the palate, the herbs and cherries create a round, slick texture, but a dusting of bitter cocoa, along with framing tannins and self-assured acid, provide balance. R6-6 -

Le Chiuse 2016 “Diecianni” Brunello di Montalcino Riserva
$224.99Tuscany Italy
Jeb Dunnuck 100 Rating
A preview of a wine that will not be released until 2026, the 2016 Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva is a jeweled ruby color and is very expressive on the nose at this stage, with lovely clarity and concentration in its notes of wet stones, framboise, rose petal, and pure orange. It feels trapped in time, with bright, refined tannins and mouthwatering freshness without ever feeling out of it. Reminding me of the moment when an orchestra is tuning and becomes perfectly in tune, so the whole room resonates, though it’s not about being louder, this wine ignites all the senses. It’s a truly superb and singular wine from Le Chiuse. Bravo. BX-3
