Plums and fresh flowers, such as roses on the nose with some stems and parsley. Full-bodied with round, polished tannins that are medium in stature but long and caressing, giving nice tension to the wine on the palate. 55% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot and 5% petit verdot.

The 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape checks in as 90% Grenache and the rest 3% each of Mourvèdre, Syrah and Bourboulenc, with a splash of Cinsault, brought up all in tank. It has a deep, layered, powerful yet elegant style as well as notes of black raspberries, crushed violets, blueberries, ground pepper, and earth. With a rounded, sexy texture, no hard edges, fine tannins, and a beautiful finish, it's a fabulous wine in the vintage. SP35-2

Freshly opened, this youthful Cotes du Rhone is brimming with ripe cherry fruit, then with a little aeration in the glass the aromas expand to include a slew of red berry fruit and spices. On the medium- to full-bodied palate, the balance of restrained ripeness and healthy dry tannins is spot-on. Long, polished finish with plenty of energy.

This robust, fruity wine is ready to drink but can also be kept for 3 to 7 years in a cellar. Beautiful crimson color. Aromas of ripe plum, currants, blackberries and fresh tobacco fill the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and well-judged acidity. There is a pleasant fleshiness here with a salinity on the finish that urges another sip.

The 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé Vielles Vignes, taken as a barrel sample, has a backward nose at the moment that was difficult to read. However, the palate is vibrant and slightly viscous in texture, with another impressive bead of acidity that foments tension. Of course, it’s very primal at the moment, but there is a dab of licorice emerging on the finish that I find intriguing. Look out for this.

Located in the heart of the appellation, in the hamlet of Pouilly, the Domaine de la Chapelle covers 7.42 hectares. The average age of the vines is about 60 years. This allows us to harvest highly concentrated grapes for better vintages. An advantageous microclimate (south, south-east exposure), combined with a marly clay-limestone soil, allows the Chardonnay grape variety to express itself fully. Very environmentally friendly cultivation method (ploughing of the soil, exclusively organic fertiliser, etc.). The harvest is entirely manual.

The 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Vieilles Vignes is a tour de force. Raspberry and apricot-scented fruit, rich chocolate notes and an incredible whirlwind of spice are delivered in this full-bodied wine that shows no heat, just waves of flavor. It should drink well for 20 years or more. R26-4
