Gurrieri 2024 Terre Siciliane Frappato
Price range: $29.99 through $150.00Sicily Italy
Frappato is a surprising grape. Sicilian wine is not supposed to be bright, crunchy, and zesty like this one. It is certainly not supposed to clock in at a cool 12.5% alcohol; not even Etna Rosso, grown at thousands of feet above sea level, does that. Yet here Frappato is, a juicy and delicious counterpoint to Nero d’Avola, and an increasingly popular alternative for grape growers and wine drinkers alike. The Gurrieri family grows their Frappato on the southern coast, dedicated to organic practices. This latest vintage offers a fresh blast of raspberry, strawberry, and smoked orange peel on the nose. The palate is crunchy and crisp, and tastes of the raspberries that fall off the bush when you try to pick them and a dusting of black pepper. As you work your way through the glass, light chalky tannins build up on the finish, something to chew on while you eat fresh pasta, fried calamari, or margarita pizza.

Vespa 2024 Bianca Terra Fiano Salento
Price range: $21.99 through $216.00Puglia Italy
Vespa’s “Bianco dei Vespa” is an Apulian white wine made from Fiano grapes that presents itself to the eye with a bright straw yellow color and furrowed by greenish reflections. On the nose it expresses notes of cedar peel and green apple, with details of hay and aromatic herbs such as thyme and bay leaf, while on the palate it is refreshing and of excellent flavor, marked by a slight citrus softness.

Saxum Vineyards 2022 Rocket Block James Berry Vineyard
$199.99Willow Creek District Paso Robles California
Wine Advocate 97 Rating
The 2022 Rocket Block James Berry Vineyard contains a lower percentage of Grenache this year, due to the high proportion of Mataro added during fermentation to balance the high sugar and high acid profile of Grenache in this harvest. It opens with a lush, red-fruited nose, complemented by dried flower, wet clay and lavender aromas, followed by a full-bodied, concentrated and punchy profile that characterizes this bottling, while retaining remarkable lift and dexterity. The finish is lively and impressively refined, cascading with layers of vibrant acidity, slowly swelling tannins and retronasal perfume. Despite the unmistakable power contained here, I find this to be an uncommonly elegant expression of the 2022 vintage. Composed of 54% Grenache, 38% Mataro, 4% Syrah and 4% Counoise, it matured for 32 months in 73% new 300-liter barrels with 22% stem inclusion. SP22-2 -

Lopez De Heredia 2012 Vina Tondonia Reserva
$49.99Rioja Spain
Decanter Magazine 94 Rating
After six years in barrel (produced at López de Heredia’s own cooperage) and three in bottle prior to release this is all you can expect from a classical Viña Tondonia with its focused intensity and muscular yet super elegant tannins. Assertive but also super silky, with juicy fruit gliding through the palate while being pleasantly pulled back by an energetic, smoky verve. Broody while at the same time mature – another accomplished vintage of a true classic. R26-3 -

Rombauer 2024 Sauvignon Blanc
Price range: $24.99 through $240.00Napa-Sonoma Counties California
Decanter Magazine 91 Rating
The 2024 Sauvignon Blanc is sourced primarily from Sonoma Valley, with some fruit from Napa. Hand-picked and whole-cluster pressed, it undergoes cool fermentation in stainless steel and is aged in about 10% neutral oak, with some in concrete tanks—both of which help round out the back palate. The wine leads with bright citrus peel character and green and yellow apple, framed by zesty acidity and wet slate minerality on the finish. A subtle, building richness adds to its appeal, making it incredibly food-friendly. Oklahoma-born and raised, Andrew Holloway began his winemaking journey as an intern at Rombauer in 2010. His talent and dedication saw him rise to assistant winemaker in 2014, and in 2023, he was named winemaker.
