Only 5 barrels produced from 100% Zinfandel. We make this Zinfandel in a layered approach that combines three different styles: part old school foot stomp, part traditional destemmed and crushed, and part whole cluster with some carbonic maceration. For our second year working with these ancient vines, instead of doing a 50/50 whole cluster, we decided to go with a 40/60 ratio. We received 2.5 tons (instead of our 1 ton the previous vintage) and it allowed us to use a few new Oak Barrels that I selected to enhance the varietal Zinfandel sweetness as well as the typical spiciness. Ļe nucleus of the nose is super bright blackberry with almost a freshly muddled mint and cucumber greenness from the whole cluster. Ļe inherent sweetness of the alcohol is perfectly balanced with the fruit richness and acidity that Zinfandel is famous for.
