Description
When Jeanne and David Jones planted their first vineyard in 1981, they chose the name Lava Cap in honor of the unique volcanic soil composition found in their estate vineyard. Since the first vintage in 1986, Lava Cap Winery remains family-owned and -operated and dedicated to the production of premium estate-bottled wines using only mountain-grown grapes. The winery sits in the Sierra Nevada foothills in the heart of El Dorado County’s famed AVA. With elevations ranging from 2,400 to 2,800 feet, the vineyards have been planted to achieve optimum growing conditions for each variety. In the daytime, the grapes bask in mountain sunshine, and at night, they are cooled by soft mountain breezes. Lava Cap Winery produces wines that are expressive of their unique vineyard soils, topography, and abundant sunshine. The wines are eagerly sought after and continue to win medals and awards year after year.
