Chateau de Pez 2019 Red Blend

    Wine Advocate 94 Rating
This year’s blend is 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 de Pez comes tumbling out of the glass with an astonishingly beautiful perfume of lilacs, black cherries and black raspberries over a core of stewed plums, clove oil, dark chocolate and Sichuan pepper. The medium-bodied palate is jam-packed with energetic black fruits, supported by a firm foundation of ripe, grainy tannins and lovely freshness, finishing long and perfumed. I love where this once-malingering château is headed—bravo to winemaker Nicolas Glumineau from Pichon Lalande! R14-3

The 2019 de Pressac is just as compelling from bottle as it was from barrel. A complex, mesmerizing wine, Pressac offers up an exotic blend of black cherry, plum, chocolate, new leather, licorice, spice and menthol. All the elements are so well balanced. Espresso, lavender, dried rose petal and cedar linger on the complex, beautifully delineated finish. The 2019 is seriously impressive. It’s as simple as that.

Pepper and bright black-fruit aromas show well in this young wine. Its ripeness- typical of the vintage- is right up front along with spice from wood aging. The wine should be ready from 2025.

An impeccably made sparkling wine from this talented winemaker, the 2022 Brut Nature comes all from Mourvèdre, made in the classic méthode champenoise style. Apple and stone fruits, some spice and floral notes, medium body, a juicy, elegant mousse, and a clean, crisp finish all define this sparkler. It’s going to evolve for 4-6 years or so, although I’d give it a year or two and drink up.

Notes of raspberry, violet, licorice, peony, black pepper and gingerbread. Greatly textured with prominent saltiness and length in the finish. The distinctive freshness and saltiness of this Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre blend makes it easy to pair with both rustic and sophisticated dishes. The smooth, red fruit character of the wines make it a great choice for tomato-based dishes such as ratatouille, while the richness from the Syrah also allow it to pair with lamb, venison or beef. A blend: 50% Grenache, 40% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre

Dark and winey, this structured offering packs red and black currant paste flavors together with threads of charcoal, warm stone, bay leaf and savory, ending with a long tug of cast iron through the finish. A blue chip for cellaring. Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault. Drink now through 2035. Only 930 cases imported. R24-5

Honeyed citrus, apricot, white flowers, and crushed stone minerality all emerge from the 2023 Condrieu. Medium to full-bodied and beautifully textured on the palate, it shows the rich, supple style of the vintage yet stays balanced and pure. This classic Condrieu will be best enjoyed over the coming 5-7 years. Drink 2025-2032.
