Lapostolle 2021 Cuvee Alexander Cabernet Sauvignon
$26.99 – $276.00Chile
James Suckling 94 Rating

An elegant and pretty complex expression with an array of red and black cherries, grilled spices, tapenade and roasted red pepper. Some firm, nicely chewy tannins on the medium- to full-bodied palate gives a tight structure to the juicy fruit. Dialled back and fresh. Shows the angular tannins from the granitic soils.

Guado al Tasso 2023 iL Bruciato
$29.99 – $276.00Tuscany Italy
Jeb Dunnuck 93 Rating
The 2023 Il Bruciato boasts a dark purple hue and exudes baked aromas of plum, pie spice, balsamic, and rich earth. Full-bodied, the palate is generous and rounded, with supple ripe tannins providing a fleshy sensation through the finish. I would prefer to enjoy this while it retains some freshness over the near term. This vintage is a blend of 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Cabernet Franc, 19% Merlot, and the remainder Syrah and Petit Verdot.

The 2019 Minervois La Livinière Les Planels reveals a deep ruby purple color as well as a beautiful nose of ripe berries (black raspberries, blackberries), peppery garrigue, violets, iron, and a touch of chalky minerality. This ripe, medium to full-bodied, seamless Syrah (there’s a splash of Grenache) has silky tannins, remarkable purity, and outstanding length. It benefits from a short decant and is a brilliant Minervois that will evolve for a solid decade.

Coming mostly from the Russian River, with small parts from Sonoma Coast and Carneros, the 2017 Chardonnay was brought up 15% new oak for 15 months. It has classy, rich notes of white flowers, brioche, honeysuckle, and a touch of minerality. Rounded, supple, beautifully textured, and long, it's a smoking value. Drink through 2023.

McPrice Myers 2021 Beautiful Earth Cabernet Sauvignon
$49.99 – $276.00Paso Robles California
Wine Advocate 96 Rating
The 2021 Beautiful Earth Cabernet Sauvignon is scented of maraschino cherries, allspice, rose petals, bay leaves and pencil shavings, gaining in aromatic intensity as it unwinds in the glass. The full-bodied palate has a deep core of fruit yet is light on its feet, with fireworks of fresh acidity and abundant, finely grained tannins, and it has a long, layered finish. It will gain savory complexity in bottle over the next 15+ years.

The queen of the ball is the 2014 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. This wine shows grace and elegance, and it pulls itself together with a profound sense of firmness and textural compactness. The quality of fruit is sweet and accessible, but the wine also reveals ethereal tones of grilled herb and blue flower that add to its good complexity. Avignonesi shows great results in a difficult vintage. WBCBuy this one by the 12pk for $22.99 bottle

Ridge 2012 Monte Bello
$274.99Santa Cruz Mountains California
Antonio Galloni 98 Rating
The 2012 Monte Bello is one of the most harmonious young Monte Bellos I can remember tasting. Seamless and voluptuous through to the finish, the 2012 is showing beautifully today. Raspberry jam, pomegranate, white flowers, mint and spices are some of the many notes that flesh out in the glass. A wine with a distinctly red-hued profile, silky tannins, no hard edges and exceptional overall balance, the 2012 Monte Bello is simply magnificent. The 2012 is racy but also impeccably balanced throughout, with shades of the 2001 that come through from time to time. I won't be surprised if the 2013 and 2014 both eventually surpass it, but there is no denying that the 2012 is simply stunning today. This is one of the best showings yet for the 2012. BX-3 BX-3
