  • Verite 2012 La Joie

    Verite 2017 La Joie

    Sonoma County California
    Jeb Dunnuck 100 Rating
Tasting like a great bottle of Château Lafite, the 2017 La Joie is based largely on Cabernet Sauvignon and brought up, I suspect, in mostly new French oak. Deep ruby/purple, with a heavenly bouquet of crème de cassis, lead pencil, cedarwood, graphite, and tobacco, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, an incredible sense of elegance and purity, building tannins, and a great, great finish. This majestic, regal Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon is going to require a decade of cellaring to hit maturity (although it’s far from unapproachable today) and will see its 50th birthday in fine form. I followed this bottle for three days and it never showed a hint of oxidation. This is easily my wine of the vintage in 2017. R20-2

Vermillion by Keplinger 2018 Red Blend

    Jeb Dunnuck 92 Rating
The 2018 Vermillion is a blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon (with a few other varieties in there as well) and comes mostly from Sonoma (69%) yet with 31% from the Sierra Foothills. Made by Helen Keplinger, it has a beautiful perfume of raspberry and strawberry fruits as well as notes of white pepper and flowers. It’s ripe, seamless, and plush on the palate, with lots of Grenache sexiness, yet it stays nicely balanced and has fine tannins, all making for a beautiful wine well worth seeking out.

 2012 Tinto de Toro

Vetus Flor de Vetus 2015 Tinto de Toro

    Toro, Castilla Leon Spain
    Wine Advocate 89 Rating
The young and fruit-driven 2015 Flor de Vetus is pure Tinta de Toro from a warm and early harvest matured in 50/50 French and American oak barrels for nine months. It has a commercial, approachable profile, with notes of plums and sweet spices, and a juicy palate with good freshness. It calls for food. WBC

Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin 2008 La Grande Dame Brut

    Champagne France
    Decanter Magazine 97 Rating
Now almost blanc de noirs, boasting 92% Pinot Noir and just 8% Chardonnay from 60%-70% estate vineyards. La Grande Dame is one of the most affordable of Champagne’s elite prestige set, and the stunning 2008 vintage was intricately engineered by the masterful Dominique Demarville for the long haul. It unites all of the enduring potential of its thundering grands crus with the tension and energy of this legendary season, colliding high-tensile acidity with deep, fine, powdery chalk minerality, bringing its finish into stark focus.

The NV Blanc de Blancs 1er Cru is powerful, dense and immediate, with terrific mid palate density and real sense of gravitas. Expressive and layered through the middle, the 1er Cru possesses gorgeous energy and resonance. Orchard fruit, slate, smoke and wild flowers meld into an expansive finish supported by beams of salinity..

Veuve Fourny Vertus Brut Rose 1er Cru

    Champagne France
    Antonio Galloni 93 Rating
The NV Brut Rosé 1er Cru is another deep, flavorful Champagne from Veuve Fourny. Here the blend of equal parts Chardonnay and Pinot (including 15% still Pinot) yields a powerful, resonant Chardonnay. Deceptive in its mid-weight feel, the Rosé is beautifully persistent, finely cut and nuanced to the core. Citrus, chalk and white pepper overtones add brightness and cut throughout. What a gorgeous wine this is. Dosage is 6 grams per liter. Disgorged: August 2018.

  • vie di romans

Vie di Romans 2018 Dessimis Pinot Grigio

    Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy
    James Suckling 96 Rating
Beautiful rose-gold color with lots of ripe pear, golden apple, mango and pineapple on the nose. Hint of honey. It’s full-bodied and creamy on the palate with toasted almonds alongside tropical fruit. Smoky minerality, too. The wine ages on the lees for ten months in French barrique. Drink or hold.

  • Vietti 2013 Barbera d' Asti Tre Vigne

Vietti 2018 Barbera d’Asti Tre Vigne

    Piedmont Italy
    Wine Advocate 91 Rating
The Vietti 2018 Barbera d’Asti Tre Vigne is a vibrant red wine teeming with energy and electricity. Those berry tones of cassis, cranberry and black currant pop from the glass. Primary fruit remains the focus, but that fruit is nicely framed by contours of spice and toasted nut. The grapes harvested for this wine represent a second selection from some of the same parcels that make the Barbera d’Asti La Crena. This cool-vintage expression is just lovely, informal and fun.

    Vietti 2018 Roero Arneis

    Piedmont Italy
    Wine Advocate 90 Rating
This is always such a delicious wine and one I could imagine pairing with a Thai salad or grilled shrimp. The 2018 Roero Arneis opens to fragrant aromas with spring flower, cut grass and white peach. This is a lean-bodied white with a bright, tonic and zesty personality.
