The still unbottled sample of the Garnacha and Cariñena blend 2016 Les Terrasses Velles Vinyes has vibrant acidity in a warm year when ripening stopped as the vines blocked and stopped producing sugar and maintained the acidity. The grapes were small because the year had also been very dry. It’s juicy and with good ripeness and some dusty tannins, reminiscent of the dusty roads among the vineyards of Priorat along with that decomposed slate. There will be 116,000 bottles of the 2016. The NV Pedro Ximenez Solera 1927 is non-vintage, but does have some 1927 material in it. This is totally dark brown/amber with notes of figs, toffee, caramel syrup, molasses and coffee. It is dense, super sweet, intense, rich and an amazingly, unctuously textured, thick beverage to consume slowly and introspectively after a meal. Drink now through 2050, or even longer.

Amapola Creek 2014 Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard

    $34.98$180.00

    Sonoma County California
    Wine Advocate 94 Rating

The 2014 Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard is slightly less potent (15.5%), but production is about the same (670 cases). Dense opaque purple, with a big, sweet blackberry and cassis nose of camphor, roasted meats and hints Provençal herbs and pepper, this rich, full-bodied, inky Zinfandel should drink nicely for at least a decade as well.

From a vineyard known better for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, this lovely aromatic white is well crafted and fruity, dry with a creaminess to the texture that's beguiling without becoming too much. Lemon, quince and apricot flavors provide a bright, lingering fleshiness that will work deliciously at the table. It spent six months in neutral French oak.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is a terrific value and is 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Petit Verdot, and the rest Petite Sirah. It has a Bordeaux-ish bouquet of new saddle leather, cedarwood, tobacco leaf, and smoky black fruits as well as medium body, plenty of fruit, sweet tannins, and a good finish. It’s not going to make old bones, but it has serious character, and I’d happily drink bottles over the coming 4-6 years. Drink: 2018-2024.
    Must be ordered.

  • Andre Brunel Cuvee Centenaire

Andre Brunel 2005 Chateauneuf-du-Pape Les Cailloux Cuvee Centenaire

    $89.99

    Southern Rhone Valley
    Wine Advocate 96 Rating
A big, rich and ripe wine, the tiny production 2005 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvee Centenaire (80% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre and 5% Syrah) comes all from the Farguerol lieu-dit that’s located in the northwestern sector of the appellation. It offers a smorgasbord of Provencal aromas and flavors, with tons of sweet kirsch, roasted herbs, beef blood, black licorice and garrigue soaring from the glass. Full-bodied, voluptuous and downright sexy, with no hard edges and a seamless style, this is one hedonistic and gorgeous Châteauneuf du Pape to drink anytime over the coming 5-6 years starting from the year 2015.
