Chateau Pedesclaux 2020 Red Blend Pauillac
$69.99 – $300.00Bordeaux

The 2020 Château Pédesclaux reminds me of the 2016 with its concentrated, pure, classic Pauillac style. A blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it has a great nose of pure blue fruits (currants, cassis) as well as ample lead pencil, chalky minerality, and violet aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, and elegant on the palate, it has the purity and polish to shine even today, yet my money is on it benefiting from 4-6 years of bottle age, and it should evolve gradually over the following 15+ years.

Adriano Marco e Vittorio 2018 Basarin Barbaresco
$34.99 – $312.00Piedmont Italy
Jeb Dunnuck 91 Rating
Fresh and lifted, the 2018 Barbaresco Basarin is forward with notes of dusty earth, anise, and dried apricot. The palate is medium-bodied and reveals notes of blood orange, dried raspberry, and tea leaf. Another finessed and approachable wine from the Adriano estate’s 2018s, it can be enjoyed now or over the next 10-11 years. Drink 2021-2032.

Harvested at night, gently whole-cluster-press and ferment in stainless steel, all to retain its freshness. To add a touch of roundness to the wine, we age briefly sur lie. This pretty Vermentino wine is of a brilliant lemon hue, with aromatic notes of candied lemon peel and lychee, and hints of orange blossom. The palate is generous with citrus and lean tropical fruits like freshly squeezed lemons, green papaya, and young pineapple. The result is a balanced and refreshing framework of bright acidity and ample minerality. 100% Vermentino.

Dominus Estate 2021 Napanook Bordeaux Blend

The 2021 Napanook is one heck of a Napanook, offering complex notes of currants, cassis, graphite, leafy tobacco, lead pencil, and chocolate. Incredible on the palate, it’s full-bodied and round, with supple, vibrant, incredible tannins. This is easily the finest vintage I’ve tasted of this cuvee and it’s the equivalent of many a Grand Vin from other producers. SPBX-6

Hartford Court 2018 Chardonnay Stone Côte Vineyard
$58.99Sonoma Coast California
Jeb Dunnuck 98 Rating
Also from the Sonoma Coast, the 2018 Chardonnay Stone Cote Vineyard offers up an exotic, full-bodied, concentrated style as well as complex lemon and orchard fruits, notes of chamomile, toasted almonds, and baking spice notes, flawless balance, integrated acidity, and a chalky, mineral-laced finish. This magical, thrilling Chardonnay will cruise for 5-7 years (probably longer) in cold cellars, and it ranks with the top handful of wines in the vintage. R42-2 -
Cayuse 2017 Syrah Cailloux Vineyard
$139.99Walla Walla Valley
Jeb Dunnuck 97 Rating
The only Syrah that includes some Viognier, the 2017 Syrah Cailloux Vineyard (this is the same site used for the Viognier) is always a great representation of the vintage as well as the wines of Christophe Baron. Ruby/purple-hued, with a rocking bouquet of black raspberries, smoked game, black pepper, and spring flowers, it has plenty of classic Rocks funkiness and meaty notes, medium to full body, a core of sweet fruit, and a great, great finish. It ranks with the top two to three wines in this vintage. It opens up nicely with time in the glass and shows well today, and it’s certainly going to cruise for 15+ years or more. R27-2
