It's always the most powerful, opulent wine in the lineup, and the 2016 is no exception, revealing a deep purple/blue color as well as a heavenly bouquet of black and blue fruits, crushed violets, graphite, liquid rocks, and chocolate. The 2019 Syrah TBD is also magical stuff. Mostly destemmed (there are 25% stems) and aging in 70% new French oak (mostly from Bien Nacido), its deep purple color is followed by incredibly pure crème de cassis and blackberry fruits that give way to more peppery, meaty, spicy notes with time in the glass. Full-bodied, concentrated, yet also flawlessly balanced, it has plenty of tannins and a great finish. My instincts say 2-4 years of bottle age are going to beneficial, but this is brilliant. SP18-1 -
