Fattoria Colsanto 2013 Sagrantino di Montefalco
Price range: $39.99 through $210.00Umbria Italy
Vinous 92 Rating
An intense display of mocha, plum sauce, cloves, brown spice and earthen mineral tones wafts up from the 2013 Montefalco Sagrantino. This is a dark and concentrated effort that floods the palate in silky richness and ripe black fruits, as balsam herbs add lift and fine tannins saturate deeply toward the close. Tart cherries and hints of cocoa and tobacco linger through the dramatically long yet also youthfully structured finale. This power-packed Sagrantino is full of character, but it will require a few more years to fully flesh out. R3-7

Fattoria Le Pupille 2022 “Poggio Valente” Toscana Rosso
Price range: $29.99 through $150.00Tuscany Italy
Wine Advocate 95 Rating
Here is another knock-out bottle in this group of new releases from Fattoria le Pupille. The 2022 Poggio Valente is punchy and bright with terrific clarity of fruit. Winemaking has shifted over the years to prioritize larger oak botte. This change has allowed for more varietal expression with blue flower, heritage rose, tart cherry, rye bread and crushed stone. The wine’s flavor signature is wholly Mediterranean with hints of rosemary and lavender. The effect is especially luminous and lifted in 2022. This is an elegant wine with a unique voice.

Really pretty balance and focus to this red with plums, berries, cherries, currants and hints of vanilla and hazelnuts. It’s medium-to full-bodied with refined tannins and a clean, fruity finish. Very elegant. Pure sangiovese. So drinkable now. Why wait? Drink or hold. BX-6 -
Fattoria Le Pupille 2020 Saffredi Maremma Toscana
Price range: $99.99 through $540.00Tuscany Italy
James Suckling 98 Rating
Impressive aromas of fresh herbs from the Tuscan coast, such as sage, mint, rosemary and thyme. Blackcurrants, too. Full-bodied with fine, chewy tannins that show beautiful length and consistency. Racy and beautiful, with lots of subtle and refined character. Slightly more cabernet sauvignon this year, which adds class to the wine. 80% cabernet sauvignon, 10% merlot and 10% petit verdot. Give this about three or four years of bottle age. Try after 2027. SP44-15

Fattoria Le Pupille 2023 Saffredi Maremma Toscana
Price range: $99.99 through $570.00Tuscany Italy
Wine Advocate 98 Rating
A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, the Fattoria Le Pupille 2023 Saffredi represents a classic expression from a fresh vintage that ultimately performed far better than expected despite mid-season mildew pressure. The estate continues to refine its use of wood to emphasize brightness and fruit purity, a shift that is especially evident here. The wine shows notes of dark cherry, ripe blackberry, spice and hints of creamy chocolate. While the 2022 vintage emphasized harder tannins, this vintage is defined by generosity and luscious fruit. The Cabernet Sauvignon in particular appears crunchy, youthful and fresh, giving the wine energy and forward momentum.

Ferrari Brut Sparkling Trentino
Price range: $29.99 through $156.00Alto Adige Italy
Vinous 91 Rating
Distinctly savory, the NV Brut Trentodoc opens with a blend of dusty dried flowers, cardamom and freshly sliced pears. It fills the palate with a silken bead of fine bubbles, taking on a salty-to-sweet sensation as tactile mineral tones mix with ripe orchard fruits. This finishes with admirable length and candied citrus twang, tapering off remarkably fresh. I love the balance and complexity here, especially for a Non-vintage Brut. Disgorged: 2023.
